POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position title: 2 Permanent Lecturer

It is the leading higher education institution in the country and it is committed to providing a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs. The School of Graduate Studies (SGS) was established in 2014 to educate the next generation of professionals, researchers, and academics who desire to further advance their knowledge in their respective fields. The SGS is a highly equipped school with its own building and teaching facilities. The SGS is one of the most prestigious academic centers in the country that offers master’s programs. The school has a strong collaboration with various international universities and organizations around the world. Fulfilling the UoH vision and the current five-year strategic plan of the University, the School of Graduate Studies at the University of Hargeisa is seeking a qualified academic staff (Lecturer) to join our faculty members. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in his/her related fields, developing and delivering high-quality teaching materials, and supervising postgraduate students.
Role Purpose
Duties and responsibilities
The Lecturer shall have the following powers and responsibilities:
- You will perform teaching duties and responsibilities, which include preparations for teaching and assessing students
- Prepare course materials such as course content, course materials, and methods of instruction if it’s necessary
- Plan, evaluate, and help revise course content, course materials, and methods of instruction
- Advise/supervise graduate students (minimum 7 candidates)
- Develop research grant proposals
- All class procedures will be considered including to take regular attendance of the classes and reporting it to the department requirements
- Prepare assignments, and exams for students and return their feedback within ten days starting from the exam date.
- Schedule and maintain regular office hours to meet with the students
- Publish one article in reputable journals annually
- Communicate outreach services: Conduct one national-level training annually
- Participate in proposal writing and SGS public conference tasks
- Participate in your SGS department’s administrative and consultation activities (your remaining administrative hours)
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND/OR ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED
- Minimum Ph.D. holder in the relevant field:
- A strong publication record and research experience: A strong publication record is required (at least two highly reputable journal publications are a requirement). The University Research Directorate should certify that the publication articles are met with the required university standards.
- Teaching experience: Permanent academic staff should have at least 5 years of teaching experience and if he/she has academic awards are added value.
- Research Project awards: Research-secured grants and awards are a great value added for permanent academic applicants
- Commitment to teaching and research activities: This is an important quality for a permanent academic position. The applicant should be committed to both teaching and research.
- Reputation and track record for educational excellence;
- Experience in influencing change within a diverse academic organization;
- The ability to think creatively, innovate and implement sustainable change;
- Demonstrated capacity to promote or contribute to the University’s agreed strategic educational direction;
- Demonstrated experience in undertaking strategic planning initiatives
- Ability to build relationships and contacts within the University, across the sector and with industry to establish and sustain collaborations; and
PERSONAL SPECIFICATION
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Minimum Ph.D. holder in the relevant field: MBA or other related Management fields (Accounting and Finance; Human Resource Management, Logistics and Supply MGT, Project Planning and Management).
- A strong publication record and research experience: A strong publication record is required (at least two highly reputable journal publications are a requirement). The University Research Directorate should certify that the publication articles are met with the required university standards.
