Somali Advocacy Against Hunger (SAAH), is non-profit, national organization whose head office is located in Mogadishu with other sub-offices in Dhobley, Kismayo, Jowhar. SAAH is a legally registered organization mandated to undertake humanitarian, resilience; relief, emergency and development interventions whose operations are guided by humanitarian principles and sphere. SAAH has accumulated vas experience of over 10 years in implementing livelihood, agricultural, cash transfer programs.
SAAH is seeking a highly qualified and motivated person to fill the above-mentioned position
Purpose of the position:
Somali Advocacy Against Hunger (SAAH) with funding from WFP is implementing a Livelihood project aimed at improving food security, livelihood and nutrition conditions of vulnerable households in Afmadow district.
The project will focus on skills training (Poultry farming, Kashata Production, Multi-storey Garden, Vegetable and crop production in Afmadow district. Under this project there is need for Agronomist who is responsible for the overall management and implementation of the Agro activities and resources within the area of responsibility (AoR). S/He analyses the agricultural situation of the AoR (Jowhar and Afamdow district), conducts Agro needs assessments and plans agro interventions in consultation with the respective field management, technical supervisor in Mogadishu.
Major Responsibilities:
Assist the Food Security and Livelihood project officer in developing and regularly updating a detailed project work plan guiding the project implementation plan.
Identify appropriate agricultural seed and small-scale agricultural tools relevant to the locality and target community in collaboration with farming comparatives and local authorities
Be involved in community mobilization, sensitization and plan and implement distribution of agricultural inputs.
Responsible in Beneficiary selections process, registration and verifications
Identify direct project beneficiaries in collaboration with the local community representatives and stakeholders from the government.
Identification of the needs of farmers and the farming practices used and formulation of an available achievable strategy to improve agricultural production within the limited resources to farmers.
Preparation of training material and training of project beneficiaries
Prepare and submit weekly, monthly, quarterly activity plans and reports of the project, and Submit to livelihood officer
Update the beneficiary information in electronic system and
Identify and request appropriate materials for the project as per the project document and ensure proper utilization of the project resources.
Participate assessments and collect data from the field and analyses to feed planning and project proposals
Conduct regular field visits to project site with Project officer and update Area Coordinator with the progress of project activities in the field
Participate in Project monitoring and evaluation process throughout the project period
Attend food security and livelihood meetings with partners and stakeholders in the field and attend clusters when assigned to attend
Supporting the mandated food security sectors coordinating body as deemed necessary, including livelihood baseline data collection and analysis whenever Necessary
Demonstrate strong commitment to be accountable to beneficiaries as it is a key SAAH commitment to beneficiaries.
Support the Project officer in regular preparation of comprehensive project progress reports (monthly, Quarter and final reports).
Perform other functions as requested by the immediate supervisor
Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience
Educational requirement: The job holder of this role is expected have a minimum degree in agricultural science, agronomy, Crop production, soil and water conservation, , and climatology any other related field of study.
Experience and skills required: 2 years of experience in Food security, livelihood, Nutrition or any other relevant experience.
Previous experience with use the scope equipment and the ability to provide basic maintenance related issues is also required.
A good basic communication skill in English is required.
Fluency communication command in Somali language.
Demonstrates well-developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as negotiation skills
Must adhere to set security standards
