SOS Children’s Villages International is the umbrella organization to which all SOS Children’s Villages including SOS Children’s Villages Somalia Association is affiliated. SOS Children’s Villages Somalia has officially been working in Somalia since 1985. SOS is currently working in 134 countries worldwide. We are committed to the welfare of children – often throughout the whole of their childhood, and to strengthening families and communities as a preventive measure in the fight against abandonment and social neglect. We also run education and health facilities. With the SOS Children’s Village concept, the organization pioneered a family approach to the long-term care of orphaned and abandoned children. SOS Children’s Villages Somalia current works in three regions; Banadir Regions (Heliwa, Wadajir, Dharkenley and Dayninle districts) southwest-state (Baidoa and Hudur) Hirshabelle State (Jowhar & Balcad)

Job Title: Communication Intern
Reporting to: Area Manager Bay & Bakol
Location: Baidoa; with 80% travels to Bakol
Position summary
The intern will be responsible for Supporting in the compilation, design and dissemination of information and communication material on SOS Children’s Villages in Somalia. The intern is expected to fulfil his work obligations to the highest standard of excellence within the agreed timeframes and according to the work required
Key Area of Accountability
- To assist the development of communication materials to support the achievement of SOS Children’s Villages
- Support in the compilation, design and dissemination of information and communication material on SOS Children’s Villages in Somalia
- Under the supervision of Communication Officer, raise the visibility and profile of donor funded projects inline with the Branding strategy.
- Support the Communication team on administrative documentation in Somalia
- Assist in reviewing case studies/ outcome stories and process to approval procedure
- Assist with external editors, designers and printers to develop quality documents for SOS Children’s Villages Somalia and ensure the standardization of SOS Children’s Villages Somalia
- Liase closely with Programme teams to ensure coordination of activities on the ground- photos and videos are captured, proper consent forms are signed and that log lists and caption are recorded
- Assist and contribute the production of the situation report for emergency/humanitarian projects in Somalia
- Take quality photos of both individual children and group photos (activity photos) for the operational areas of Southwest state that include: Hudur Medical Centre, Lafole health Centre and Baidoa District Hospital as well as other on going and upcoming programs.
- Select the best photos for use of SOS
- Caption the selected photos with attractive wordings
- Take videos of the children in the Health facilities, as well as in the communities SOS work with.
- Edit the videos using VSDC or any other free editing software.
Qualifications and Experience
- Must have completed an undergraduate degree in Journalism/communications or a diploma holder with experience. Continuing students should be available for three months full time.
- Must have a full knowledge and understanding when and how consent form to be filled and asked to who
- Excellent written and spoken English

- Knowledge of Somali language (May and Maxaa) is a MUST
- Proven experience in the field of photography
- Knowledge photographic techniques such as lighting and composition.
- Knowledge of editing videos using VSDC or any other editing software: cutting and splitting, adding transition, music, text etc and finally exporting the project.
- Ability to work within deadlines, thinking creatively.
- Results driven and sense of urgency
- Self-starter and self-driven
- Willing to travel to area of work
