Job Title: Curriculum Officer
Ministry/ institution: Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education
Department: Teacher and Curriculum Development
Grade Level & Classification: Grade 6
Reporting to: Teacher and Curriculum Development Director
Salary: $502
Hours: 36 hrs per week
Location: Hirshabelle, Jowhar

Purpose of the position

 Curriculum officer will liaise, inspect, the district principals, teachers, students, representatives of denominational schools, community groups and organizations, other Government Ministries and Donor Agencies in the district. Works in collaboration with the Teacher and curriculum development Director to ensure that schools are administered in a proper and efficient manner, Supervises and supports schools within the District and serves as liaison between the Ministry of Education and schools.

  1. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Reporting teachers and curriculum Development Director,
  • Evaluating the progress of the teaching of the subject/area in schools;
  • Evaluating and ensuring the quality and standards of teaching and learning in schools and Colleges;
  • Participating and contributing effectively in educational programmes, both during and after school hours;
  • Providing advice, input, support and monitoring in connection with curriculum development, management, eLearning and quality assurance development, management and implementation at Directorate, College, school and other educational institution level, in both the State and non-State school sector;
  • Advising, supporting and monitoring educational programmes in schools and Colleges;
  • Integrating the gender perspective in programmes and initiatives of the Directorates;
  • Assisting in the professional development of staff;
  • Collecting and maintaining relevant data and statistics;
  • Participating in the monitoring of the implementation and evaluation of the National Curriculum Framework (NCF), and regularly contribute to its relevant review;
  • Participating in curriculum policy for schools and Colleges in line with the NCF, including the development and monitoring of learning outcomes, syllabi and the provision of appropriate curricula, text books and other resource material;
  • Evaluating and reporting on the work of teachers and on the progress of the teaching of the subject/area in schools;
  • Evaluating and ensuring the quality and standards of teaching and learning in schools and Colleges;
  • Participating and contributing effectively in educational programmes, both during and after school hours;
  • Contributing towards the organisation and provision of professional development;
  • Advising on the choice of textbooks, equipment, teaching aids and other educational resources;
  • Participating and facilitating curriculum teams for the production of suitable teaching materials at the various levels;
  • Gathering, analysing, researching and evaluating data and using it to plan and manage services, projects and systems;
  • Ensuring the timely preparation and setting of national assessments, including examinations;
  • Any other duty compatible with the post of Education Officer within
  • Participate in the administration and development of Art in both primary and secondary cycles;
  • Coordinate with Education Officers of other subjects within Learning Area; Alternative and Applied Learning
  • Manage and regulate alternative learning programmes in primary and secondary schools, including the Core Curriculum Programme and other similar programmes operating in schools;
  • Coordinate with other Education Officers in all aspects of Assessment;
  • Participate in the administration and development of Biology in secondary cycle;
  • Coordinate with Education Officers of other subjects within Learning Area; Early Years
  • Participate in the administration and development of Graphical Communication in secondary cycle;
  • Coordinate with Education Officers of other subjects within Learning Area;
  • History
  • Participate in the administration and development of History in primary and secondary cycles;
  • Coordinate with Education Officers of other subjects within Learning Area;
  • Mathematics
  • Participate in the administration and development of Mathematics in primary and secondary cycles;
  • Coordinate with Education Officers of other subjects within Learning Area;
  • Chemistry
  • Participate in the administration and development of Chemistry in secondary cycle;
  • Coordinate with Education Officers of other subjects within all Learning.

 

  1. Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelors in Education or a relevant field required
  • 3 years of relevant experience in Educational Management
  1. Competences
  • Strong understanding of government financial management and measures of performance.
  • Sound knowledge international standards of management practice.
  • Computer literacy and familiarity with Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Fluency in both English and Somali Languages in writing and Oral.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership skills with proven experience of managing and motivating a diverse team.
  • Proven experience in education and in developing strategic planning at a high level.
  • Demonstrable experience of effective internal and external communication skills and political sensitivity
  • Possesses high level political, analytical, policy and management skills.
  • The ability to provide leadership, direction and motivation to the Ministry of education
  • Excellent interpersonal and facilitation skills, including the ability to effectively work with and support the members of a team and work collectively in partnership with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • High standards of ethical behavior and integrity and aability to identify, analyse and solve complex issues
