Title: Finance Assistant

 

TEAM/PROGRAMME: Support team, Somaliland LOCATION:   Hargeisa
GRADE: 5 POST TYPE: National
Child Safeguarding:

Level 3 – the responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have regular contact with or access to children or young people

ROLE PURPOSE:

To assist the Area Finance office in the operation of Save the Children Somaliland archives, to ensure that all financial documents are correctly stored and easily accessible, verify support documents in all projects are properly arranged

SCOPE OF ROLE:Reports to: Area Finance Officer – SL

Dimensions: Save the Children works in 4 regions in Somalia/Somaliland with a current staff complement of approximately 450 staff and current expenditure of approximately GBP 30 million each year.

Staff directly reporting to this post:   None

Working contacts:

Internal: Finance Team, Budget Holders, Project & support staff, internal audit and Hargeisa finance Unit

External: Tax Offices, External Auditors, Regulatory Bodies, Bank, Insurance, Suppliers, Transporters, partners.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

§  Maintain daily cheque payments Tracker and ensure all transfer slips to be attached to the related payment vouchers.

§  Responsible for archiving all cash, bank, accruals and General Journal Ledger documentations.

§  Ensure all outstanding staff advances (floats) are reconciled on weekly basis and report float control sheet status to the Finance Officer weekly.

§  Responsible for verification of transaction completeness in terms of supporting documentation, budget codes and approvals once filling.

§  Assist the Finance Officer in running accurate monthly and timely financial management information.

§  Assist Finance Officer with Month-End Closure tasks and reconciliation of control accounts.

§  Comply with all relevant Save the Children policies and procedures with respect to health and safety, security, equal opportunities and other relevant policies.

§  Establish an effective working relationship with other business partnering departments

§  Perform other duties that is assigned by the Area Finance Officer.

§  Carry out the responsibilities of the role in a way that reflects Save the Children’s commitment to safeguarding children in accordance the Child Protection Policy.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE·       Minimum of Degree or equivalent accounting qualification

·       About 2 years within a busy working environment

·       Computer skills especially in Ms Excel, spread sheets, Ms Word and other Accounting packages will be added value

·       High level of integrity and ability to work as part of a professional team

·       Ability and willingness to work under high pressure to meet tight deadlines

·       Good communication and interpersonal skills

·       Supportive personnel management style
