NEXUS Consortium Somalia (https://nexusom.org/) is an association for civil society leadership to advance a new community-driven model of partnership promoting peaceful, thriving, and empowered communities in Somalia and Somaliland. This unique platform, led by eight pioneering Somali NGOs, aspires to lead a locally driven agenda for change, finding common cause and syncing interventions with government authorities, private sector, and the international community.
- Job Purpose: The Finance Officer will be responsible for enhancing accounting records. The Officer is tasked with compliance, budgeting, reporting, and contributing to the overall financial management. The role entails performing day to day financial accounting tasks including, processing payments, filing and document retrieval, providing data for report preparation, support in budgeting, financial accounting and reporting of assigned grants.
- Reports to: Nexus Consortium Executive Director.
- Duty Station: Somalia/Somaliland.
- Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, including financial statements and reports, and provide information and analysis to the supervisor to assist in informed decision-making.
- Coordinate audit process by preparing accurate and complete documentation of all financial transactions and records, including receipts, invoices, bank statements and reconciliations.
- Compile monthly financial reports, including balance sheets, income, and cash flow statements, to communicate the organization’s financial health.
- Facilitate vendor payments in a timely manner
- Responsible for analyzing financial data, preparing budgets and cash flow statements, and ensuring that cash withdrawals are made in accordance with the donor’s policies and procedures to minimize risk and Audit queries.
- Manage budgets, including forecast future expenses, track spending against budget, and identify opportunities to reduce costs so as to attain operational efficiency.
- Prepare grant acknowledgment receipts to ensure the consortium meets donor reporting requirements.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with donors by preparing and submitting timely financial reports.
- Reconcile travel advance accounts for staff to ensure all expenses are accounted for and the advance amount was properly utilized
- Review the payroll and ensure timely payment of salaries.
- Ensures that staffs are trained on Nexus financial policies and procedures.
- Follows-up on timely submission of budget proposals by projects. Gives necessary comments on budget proposals and submits to the Executive Director for approval from the Board
- Administers and controls use of approved budget. Carries out budget utilization comparison periodically as per the directive thereon. Arranges transfer of budget to projects as per plan and procedure.
- Checks completeness and appropriateness of supporting documents of both income and expenditure transactions, codes, documents for account recording, ensures timely recording of all transactions.
- Checks proper accounting keeping by projects, provides advices and assistance as necessary thereon, reports inconsistencies to the Executive Director.
- Ensures proper record keeping of all fixed assets and property at the office.
- Directs, coordinates and executes inventory taking at office.
- Carries out and performs other similar duties as assigned by the Executive
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
- BA Degree in Accounting or Finance
- 3-5 years of relevant experience, at least 2 years in senior position
