SOS Children’s Villages International is the umbrella organization to which all SOS Children’s Villages including SOS Children’s Villages Somalia Association is affiliated. SOS Children’s Villages Somalia has officially been working in Somalia since 1985. SOS is currently working in 134 countries worldwide. We are committed to the welfare of children – often throughout the whole of their childhood, and to strengthening families and communities as a preventive measure in the fight against abandonment and social neglect. We also run education and health facilities. With the SOS Children’s Village concept, the organization pioneered a family approach to the long-term care of orphaned and abandoned children. SOS Children’s Villages invites applications from suitably qualified and interested candidates who fulfill the eligibility criterion for theposition below;

Position​​          : GBV Project Officer

Location​​          : Balcad and Jowhar Somalia

Reports to                     : CP/GBV project Coordinator

Contract Duration                : 6 Months (Temporary Contract)

POSITION SUMMARY

The GBV project officer shall be the focal point for all GBV case management activities, referral of GBV/CP cases. The GBV officer will be responsible for contributing to the timely and quality implementation of activities, deliver GBV related awareness, training, documentation and case filling. He/ She will be conducting GBV prevention and response training/sessions. The GBV officer will serve as the focal point for children with GBV concerns and will closely work with community volunteers and Child Protection team through case management and coordinating all GBV activities.​

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversee case management (including follow up on referrals and action plans) and support services provided to GBV survivors
• Initiate planning for longer-term GBV prevention and response activities, including referral pathway and standard operating procedures.
• Maintain, monitor and measure project implementation and contribute to effective information management on GBV survivors.
• Closely work with case workers and ensure that staff implement and respect best-practice and international standards in GBV prevention and response and know how to use existing referral pathways;
• Participate and maintain effective relationship with GBVWG and CPWG in area level and other protection related working groups for better coordination and referral pathways among service providers.
• Closely work with partners, community member and community committee focal points.
• Assist with general GBV program operations and field-based activities.
• Follow up children cases referred for safe shelter in collaboration with related stakeholders.
• Submit quality reports as scheduled including but not limited toweekly, monthly and quarterly reports.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

• University degree, preferably in Social Sciences, Human Rights,Psychology, Public/Community Health, International Law or related field from a recognized institution of higher learning
• Minimum 3 years work experience in GBV, child protection or social work with a demonstrated focus on GBV program design and implementation
• Good understanding and experience of working in Middle Shabele especially Balcad and Jowhar is a definite advantage.
• Verbal fluency in English and Somali language.
• Knowledge of community based child/GBV protection approaches, preferably including experience in participatory approaches and child participation methodologies.
• Basic familiarity with MS application packages (Word, Excel and database software) and willingness to develop further.
• Good cooperation skills, ability to work well independently and in a team;
• Experience working with International NGO’s or local authorities in complex emergencies
• Sound knowledge of gender issues in humanitarian settings, particularly GBV, including relevant international human rights, principles and established international standards (i.e: CPMS, GBVIMS, etc.)
• Strong self-starter, able to take initiative and adapt to changing circumstances and priorities.
• Strong listening and empathy skills, as well as commitment to supporting women and children survivors/ at risk;
• Positive attitude towards community work with emphasis on the ability to learn from communities and support innovative approaches to problem solving.
