Purpose:

This position will work to professionally contribute to mainstream the cross-cutting issue of gender equality in ZOA’s projects in Dollo programme area, and specifically the following project: ‘Alianza Shire: Energy access for refugees and host communities in Dollo addo and Bokomayo refugee camps’.

 

He/she will be responsible for undertaking an in-depth analysis, making recommendations and providing training and support to colleagues and other relevant stakeholders to integrate gender equality as a cross cutting issue in ZOA’s work in  the following refugee camps; Bokomayo, Malkadida, Kobe, Helaweyn and  Buramino camps and their hosting Woredas, Shire town, and Tahtay Koraro Woreda.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Conduct a gender assessment in the aforementioned refugee camps and generate a report that constitutes a gender diagnosis based on the data obtained in field, identifying priorities, practical needs and strategic interests of women and girls related to energy.
  • Facilitate and lead gender sensitization workshops held at Buramino.
  • Identification of the practical needs and strategic interests of women and girls, related to energy, especially to the activities of the energy project.
  • Development of an Action Plan with Gender Perspective specific to Alianza: Energy access for refugees and host communities in Dollo project.
  • Include the necessary actions to guarantee the achievement of the gender equality objectives that have already been set for the project. Regarding the off-grid project, two activities will receive special and urgent attention: entrepreneur’s selection at refugee camps and women participation in the Photovoltaic Electrification Committee. In these cases, specific strategies will be designed to achieve the objectives that have already been set related to gender equality. This is, assure that there is at least one woman in every PEC and 50% women participation in USER ASSISTANCE CENTERS management.
  • Review and re-elaboration of baselines, activities and main indicators achieving the gender mainstreaming in the project.
  • Organize and lead meetings with women’s organizations, local authorities and several organizations working in the refugee camps and host communities.
  • Take the lead of looking at ZOA’s livelihoods activities to ensure that they are gender sensitive or/and gender trans-formative.
  • Achieve other activities assigned from line manager.

Communications and Working Relationships:

The Gender Officers will work with all relevant stakeholders, government agencies and internal ZOA departments to ensure the smooth implementation of gender sensitive projects in the program area.

Job Requirements

Educational Qualification and Experience

  • BA/BSC degree in Gender Studies, developmental studies, social sciences and related fields.
  • At least five years’ work experience for BA/BSc degree, and three years for MA/MSC degree.
  • Former immediate experience with Gender related post in an advantage.
  • Experience of working with an INGO in humanitarian context is an advantage.

Skills Specific to the Post

  • Commitment to the vision and mission of ZOA relief to recovery;
  • Excellent understanding of local context preferred;
  • Demonstrated ability to meet strict deadlines and work independently and cooperatively with team members in a cross-cultural environment.
  • Ability to work in hardship conditions.
  • Excellent writing skill in English. Knowledge of local language will be an advantage.
