The Opportunity

Save the Children International Kenya Country office has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as Humanitarian Officer. The role holder will provide support and guidance to response teams on humanitarian programming, by ensuring effective information flows and assistance in adherence to SCI operations procedures/standards and priorities. In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly. This position is contingent upon donor approval and funding.

Contract Duration: 12 months

Reporting to: Humanitarian Manager

Location: Garissa

Nationality: Kenya Nationals only

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Disaster Management, Social Sciences and any other relevant qualifications.
  • Recommended minimum of 3 years’ experience in humanitarian programme management, preparedness and response in Kenya,
  • Experience of planning, implementing and tracking project activities and working with other staff to meet deadlines.
  • Experience reporting against project milestones.
  • Strong organisation and time management skills. Ability to plan and prioritise competing tasks.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to engage with a variety of stakeholders and develop clear and compelling communication tools.
  • Experience managing stakeholders with varying priorities to achieve a common goal, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong problem solving skills; Ability to adopt a pro-active approach to problem solving, working with and coordinating input from multiple departments.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills; fluent in English. Ability to communicate complicated messaging simply and gain buy in from key stakeholders through compelling communications.
  • A flexible and collaborative approach; ability to liaise with a broad range of people at all levels, across different cultures and to act with credibility, discretion, tact and diplomacy.
  • Commitment to the mission, vision and values of Save the Children.
  • Good knowledge of the nutrition and health field.
  • Good presentation and persuasion skills.
