Background

iMMAP Inc. Somalia was established in 2023 to enhance support for humanitarian actors in the country through tailored information management (IM) services. The primary objective is to utilize the Humanitarian Information Support Team (HIST) to effectively tackle the multifaceted challenges arising from complex crises in Somalia. Services provided by iMMAP Inc. include comprehensive assistance in data collection through specialized tools, expertise in data analysis and visualization, and capacity-building initiatives through training programs for humanitarian actors in Somalia, including organizations like the Somalia Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) and the Somalia NGO Consortium.

Description of Duties

  • Conduct an assessment of the existing information management system and identify requirements for data management capacity building.
  • Manage and maintain geospatial datasets, ensuring a robust archiving system.
  • Develop a framework for the information management system, based on the needs and requirements identified during the assessment.
  • Create symbology library, map layers (including features and attribute tables), and standardized map, and dashboard templates.
  • Draft technical documentation to document the information management system development process.
  • Build interactive web maps, dashboards, and web applications.
  • Remote sensing data analysis support whenever the need arises.
  • Develop geoprocessing models to automate GIS workflows using programming and model builder applications.
  • Support the development of GIS training materials and deliver GIS-related training for project beneficiaries.
  • Provide training and technical support to support information management-related work of project partners.
  • Support to draft project progress reports.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Education
  • University degree in the field of Information Technology, Information Management, Geo-informatics or GIS, Computer Sciences, or a similar field is Mandatory
  • Advanced courses in the relevant IM subjects are advantageous
  • Experience
  • A minimum of three years of experience with an INGO and or UN agency in humanitarian information management, GIS, database management, data visualization, or data analysis is MUST.
  • Mandatory Graphic design skills in InDesign and Adobe Illustrator and Programming skills in R or SQL; experience in remote Sensing, Power BI, QGIS and ArcGIS would be an advantage.

  • Experience in Flood Rapid need Assessment data analysis and visualization is Mandatory.
  • Mandatory knowledge of humanitarian context, coordination challenges, and gaps in Somalia.
  • A good knowledge of programming theory and relational database principles would be an advantage.
  • Experience working with SoDMA and SNC is an asset.
  • Proven experience in conducting Information management training for government and local NGO staff.
  • Soft skills
  • An understanding of the analysis spectrum and specific analytical techniques to ensure each level of analysis is covered, i.e., descriptive, explanatory, interpretive, anticipative, and prescriptive analysis.
  • Knowledge of techniques and criteria to assess the reliability of sources and credibility of information.
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize qualitative and quantitative information from a wide range of sources.
  • An understanding of the main analytical standards used to assess the quality and credibility of analysis.
  • Effective communication skills to work among clusters, agencies, humanitarian partners, and Government counterparts.
  • Good organizational skills to deliver products on time and with quality.
  • High level of written and spoken English with excellent analytical skills
  • Proficient in the Somali language is Mandatory.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to understand and adapt to complex and dynamic situations.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Good facilitation skills to achieve strong consensus between stakeholders.
