Line Manager: PROGRAM COORDINATOR
Length of contract: 6 MONTHS

Ärzte der Welt / Doctors of the World / Médecins Du Monde is a network of 16 humanitarian Non-Governmental organizations, working in health and medical aid in domestic and international projects. The focus lies on ensuring access to primary healthcare services, SRH / MCH services (incl. GBV) and psychosocial support. Furthermore, MdM is advocating for a universal access and rights to health services, especially for disadvantaged groups and people affected by crises and conflicts.
MdM has been working in Ethiopia since 1986, implementing different types of programmes from long-term interventions to emergency response. The current project in the Somali region by MdMGe is aiming to improve the access to and the quality of health care services (with a focus on sexual and reproductive health) and prevention of epidemics (incl. Covid-19) for the conflict and crisis affected population in two areas of the Region (Gerbo, Nogob Zone / Qoloji IDP Camp/ Fafaan Zone). Particular attention will be paid to the needs of women and girls by improving the access to SRH services, including GBV. Nutrition and WASH are integrated in this multi-sectoral approach and carried out by the local organisation OWDA (Organisation for Welfare and Development in Action).
JOB TASKS
The Nurse will be responsible mainly for quality implementation of Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood illness (IMNCI) in Gabogabo Health Centres (HC) and HP with IDP sites outreach service in Gabogabo woreda.
- S/he will:
- Ensure the provision of quality IMNCI in the two health centers at the under five department
- Ensure immunization and screening of children for malnutrition and referral
- Assist on Covid19 prevention, availing PPE and vaccine provision
- Coordinate all the activities with the Head of the HC and relevant departments (e.g. Pharmacy, EPI, etc)
- Build the capacity of health staff to deal with neonatal and childhood illness
Key activities areas will include:
Program/Medical:
- Support the management of child, neonatal, pediatric, obstetric emergencies and complications and timely referral at the two HC
- Mentor and coach health staff on clinical management of GBV and referral
- Conduct need assessment of the MCH and under five department to identify gaps in equipment, drugs and supplies and coordinate with central pharmacy and government supply to feel the gap
- Conduct training assessment needs and develop a training plan
- Ensure that practices are aligned with evidence-based clinical practice in line with the national guidelines and protocols
- Provide compassionate and respectful care at the HC
- Demonstrate behavior that upholds the public trust in the service.
- To participate in the initial needs assessments in the supported zone (Fanfan) in cases of displacements or outbreaks
Reporting
- Compile monthly project activities report and submit to the Program Coordinator.
- Ensure recordings and completeness of data related to MCH services at the two HC;
- Conduct immediate analysis and reporting on maternal, neonatal and pediatric deaths.
Mentoring and coaching:
- Mentor and coach health staff of the HCs on IMNCI, EPI and screening and management of acute malnutrition
- Mentor and coach health staff of the HCs on Covdi19 prevention measures, response and vaccine
- Implement standards and protocols for IMNCI at the HCs;
- Conduct need assessment of the HC regarding equipment, drugs and supplies and in close collaboration with the HC Head and Pharmacist, work on adequate pharmacy management system to ensure that the drugs provided by the Project are appropriately stored and managed;
- Support the implementation of infection and prevention control with consideration of Covid19;
Monitoring and Reporting:
- Facilitate and support recording and follow up of Covid19 vaccination
- Participate to weekly/ monthly request and consumption follow up with the pharmacy;
- Prepare a monthly report, including on drug/consumables consumption and submit to Program coordinator.

Job Requirements
PROFILE REQUIRED
- BSc nurse at least
- English and Somali language are mandatory (speaking and writing) and Oromifa language will be an asset.
- At least 5 years’ experience of IMNCI, EPI and nutrition in the clinical setting.
- Flexibility, reactivity, anticipation, adaptability.
- Good organizational skills in day to day and crisis situation
- Excellent computer and reporting skills.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to classify and manage priorities – High autonomous is required.
- Interest and ability to work in a team.
- Capacity to work and to live remote area with intense conditions.
- Experience/knowledge of the area
- Previous experience in mentoring and coaching
- Trained on compassionate and respectful care
- Trained on GBV case management and FGM case management.
