Job Purpose:

The project officer under the supervision of the SBCC Advisor will be responsible for providing management and technical assistance in day to day implementation of NTD Elimination and Control Programs. He/She will be primarily responsible for ensuring the achievement of specific project deliverables and targets in WASH- NTD Project

The project officer is expected to carryout routine activity planning and implementation of field level activities; coordinate and monitor/supervise timely implementation of program/project activities and the budget utilization under his/her custody. He/She will be responsible for organizing and facilitating trainings, conducting regular site visits, and provide technical assistance including coaching to health care providers working in public health facilities, school communities and partners.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the proper implementation of project activities and monitor progress regularly with periodic supervision and review meetings in coordination with project implementing partners.
  • Assist service delivery sites in meeting quality standards by providing training, training follow-up visits, clear performance feedback and technical support as needed, particularly in the area of NTD services.
  • Follow the distribution and impact of the printed SBCC materials
  • Closely follow school children focused behavioral change and communication activities
  • Collaborate with regional manager, technical and program team to initiate and ensure successful implementation of ongoing and new initiatives.
  • Assist the regional and woreda health and education bureau and community level partners in demand creation activities.

  • Monitor the activity of NTD supported sites and provide necessary guidance and technical assistance
  • Conduct regular site visits, in liaison with other partners, to monitor progress and quality to ensure high standards of NTD services and effective use of all resources.
  • Identify with other technical staff and counterpart’s lessons learned and potential best practices related to NTD, participate in the documentation and dissemination of best practices.
  • Document all the program implementation and maintain accurate records of training activities, including attendance, evaluations, and training completion.
  • Ensure the quality, equity, scale, and sustainability of programmatic approaches and documentation of experiences/ lessons learnt from the project.
  • Carry out other Amref Health Africa assignments as may be required and as directed by the regional focal, technical advisors and Program manager at the country office.

Job Requirements

Academic Qualification and Work Experience:

  • BSC/BA in Environmental health, public health or other health related fields.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience which are directly SBCC/NTD/Trachoma/WASH
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Somali languages.
  • Must be willing to travel frequently to project activity areas and woredas as per need.
