YouthLink Somalia is a local humanitarian NGO operation in South and Central Somalia. YouthLink works to enable the poor and vulnerable communities to improve livelihoods and build their resilience through long term development including health and nutrition live saving programs.

Position Title: 2 Qualified Midwives

Duty Station: Mogadishu, Somalia

Reporting Directly To: Health and Nutrition officer

Overall Supervision By: Health and Nutrition Coordinator

Remuneration: Negotiable

2.       Organizational Context and Scope

For increasing access to Health and Nutrition, YouthLink works in urban and IDPs in Banadir region through the provision of Mobile health and Nutrition services that include treatment of SAM, essential maternal and child health services in Partnership with Concern Worldwide funded by World bank.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Health and Nutrition Officer, the Qualified Midwife will ensure to address critical needs in maternal and child health care at the assigned locations in Bardhere district. The successful candidate will be expected to work full time on every week, spending the whole day at the mobile clinic facility, reviewing cases brought forward by the TBAs/CHWs. The role is mainly to ensure   provision of maternal and child health care services to beneficiaries, adhering to ethics of clinical practice, nursing care, MoH/WHO Somali Treatment Guidelines. (STGs. She will work with the TBAs/CHW and the community at the respective IDP , mentoring them and providing them with On Job training to ensure there is consistent high quality  preventive and curative care for mothers, children and adults.

Main Duties &  Responsibilities:

ü  ANC/PNC consultations following Somali Treatment Guidelines (STGs)

ü  Ensure that all required observations, prescribed treatment and procedures are properly carried out and documented on patient’s charts or cards.

ü  Examines patients during pregnancy, utilizing physical findings and Patient’s statements to evaluate condition and ensure patient’s progress is normal.

ü  Provide medical care and treatment to obstetrical patient under supervision of medical doctor, deliver babies and instructs patients in prenatal and post-natal health practices.

ü  Stays with the patient during labor to reassure and administer medication. Performs deliveries and postpartum examinations and treatments to ensure that patients and infant are responding normally.

ü  Observes universal safety and hygiene procedures during delivery to ensure adequate patient outcome.

ü  When deviations from standard are encountered during pregnancy or delivery, administers stipulated emergency measures and arranges for immediate contact of the medical doctor.

ü  Participates in and provides training to other staff

ü  Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures rules and regulations.

ü  Arrange and submit weekly work schedule and plan daily duties and responsibilities in collaboration with other nurses and medical officer in charge.

ü  Attend monthly weekly/monthly Health District Health Office meetings

ü  Do any other duties as required by the supervisor

Skills and Qualifications

ü  Female applicant is desired

ü  Degree or Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery

ü  At least 3 years working experience in a busy health center or hospital setup.

ü  Ready to work in difficult environmental conditions

ü  Sensitive to different cultures and has good interpersonal skills

ü  Competent to work under stress as the situation may dictate.
