At the end of 2019, the Foundation started its Pharo Ventures franchise to prioritise sectors where the Foundation believes a real impact can be made by establishing self- sustaining businesses, which focus on job creation.

Headquartered in London, the Foundation has an operational Head Office in Nairobi, Kenya with country offices in Ethiopia (Addis Ababa and Assosa), Somaliland (Hargeisa) and Rwanda (Kigali) with further expansion plans in East Africa.

 

Position Summary

Our internship program offers new graduates the opportunity to build and strengthen professional skills particularly in writing, research, organization and interpersonal communications. We are looking for a responsible Healthy and Safety Educator intern for our Early childhood Education centres. The intern will assist in conducting annual health assessments and analysis. He/she will also educate parents and teachers about the students’ health

The goal is to establish a safe learning place according to legal standards and foster a culture of attention to health and safety.

Job Title: School Health & Safety Educator

Reports to: ECE Health Officer

Job Location: Hargeisa, Somaliland

Contract Type:  Internship (3 months)

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Help conduct 2 annual health assessments for the students in the ECE program. Take health questionnaires and fill health booklets for the health assessments.

Help input the health assessment data to the Foundation’s ECE program Information Management System. Share the findings from the health assessment to parents and teachers.

Help communicate with parents and teachers regarding the health of their child/student.

Help provide health education on various topics for teachers, students, and parents.

Liaise with other healthcare providers in order to provide additional health support to the ECE program.

Qualification Requirements:

Bachelor Degree in Public Health or related field.

Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in a health-related field.

Experience working with families of children in low income communities supporting their health and wellness preferred.

Certification in CPR and First Aid.

Experience working in an educational setting is an asset.

Proficiency in Word and Excel in a Microsoft Windows environment.

Behavioural Competencies:

Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential

situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy. Strong written and oral communication skills.

Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language. Self-motivated and directed.

Keen attention to detail.

Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Strong customer-service orientation.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritise and perform under pressure as needed. Must be dependable, able to follow instructions and respond to management direction.

The salary and benefits package will be in accordance with The Pharo Foundation Internship policy.
