Position: Senior Brand and Communication Officer

SOS Children’s Villages Children’s Villages, founded in 1949 by Hermann Gmeiner, is the world’s largest non-governmental organization focused on supporting children and young people without parental care, or at risk of losing it.

Child neglect, abuse and abandonment is everywhere. Families are at risk of separation. Locally led, we work in more than 130 countries and territories to strengthen families who are under pressure so they can stay together. When this is not in a child or young person’s best interests, we provide quality care according to their unique needs.

SOS Children’s Villages Somaliland is seeking to recruit Senior Brand and Communication Officer. Subject to availability of funds,

 

Priority tasks & responsibilities

To implement the internal communications strategy to increase staff knowledge and awareness of policies, decisions and events.

To plan, monitor, evaluate and analyses the external communication environment and inform the Project Director

To document and report SOS Children’s Villages success stories from the community.

Identify key Media and foster relationship with them to proactively position the organizations’ topics and messages in the national news agenda.

Reviewing and producing SOS CV Somaliland publicity materials including but not limited to, Organizational informational brochure, banners and bill boards for better visibility of the organization.

Provide Public Relations expertise to the Organization.

Ensure Community Responsibility Relationships that benefit SOS Somaliland in line with its mission.

Assist IPD manager with expertise for external communications and adaptation of content for all channels, online and offline.

Providing support in coordinating media involvement in the activities of SOS CV Somaliland activities including press releases and coverage and airing of the MA’s events in print and electronic media; especially those activities that require media coverage.

Supported by the ICT coordinator updates SOS SX web site on monthly bases.

In times of CRISIS; Assist crisis communications in close cooperation with the IPD Manager and the Project Director

Act as an information hub to SOS NO Office.

Closely cooperate with the Institutional Partnership development manager, Project Director, to pursue a consistent message about the organization and its mission and activities.

Maintain on-going brand integrity via consistent application of the brand guidelines.

Facilitates constant orientation of staff on the brand.

Plan and execute National events for the organization.

Must criteria

Education: BA in Public relation, Journalism and communication, international studies or any other related field of study

Work experience: Minimum of three years’ experience working with NGO/civil society sector or public donor organization.

Competencies – knowledge, skills, abilities

(Must-have all of the below or show capability to develop within 6 months at most)

Good communication skills – must be able to explain the SOS brand concept to others in a convincing and inspiring way

Fluency in  Somali and English languages

Leadership skills

Aware of government regulation on communication

Team player

Good analytical, decision making and problem solving skills

Well-developed facilitation and presentation skill

Computer Proficiency and preferably trained on graphic design.

Integrity, objectivity, confidence, self-motivation and the ability to gate respect of peer and supervisors,

Ability to relate the background, philosophy, principles and values of SOS Children’s

Villages.

Basic understanding of marketing.

Any other similar task assigned by the supervisor
