Overview of position |
- Somalia features a rapidly urbanizing population with households entering urban areas due to forced displacement, economic opportunities & access to services. As a result, the country has witnessed an accelerated growth of its cities & towns leading to the proliferation of informal settlements with urban areas across the country. Most of these urban settlements are characterized as IDP sites with the majority of the settlement’s population being displaced due to drought, flooding, eviction or conflict. An overwhelming percentage of these settlements are located on privately owned land which presents the precarious risk of eviction leading to secondary displacement. urban solutions are required that aim to leverage humanitarian & development investments either facilitating voluntary reintegration onto authority owned land with the intention of land title provision to Displaced Affected Communities (DAC) or upgrading the settlements that populations are residing in.
