About the Job

The Driver will facilitate movement of staff, official visitors and offers other transport services within the assigned regions. Ensures compliance to ICRC standard security procedures, transport guidelines and national traffic laws.

This is a national/resident position based in Mogadishu, Somalia.

Duties and Responsibilities

Ÿ  Facilitates movement of staff and visitors within the region as planned, ensures safety and security of the passengers and the vehicle

Ÿ  Picks and drops off staff and official visitors at the field/airport, facilitates immigration, customs formalities, and local travel requirements

Ÿ  Constantly monitors the general condition on the roads and continuously updates the supervisor on the state of the roads, vehicle, and security condition

Ÿ  Ensures that goods are loaded into the vehicle according to local, international and ICRC safety standards

Ÿ  Confirms that all scheduled trips have the relevant authorization before departure

Ÿ  Reports immediately of any accidents, defects and/or missing equipment to the supervisor

Ÿ  Adheres to the internally set guidelines on motor vehicle maintenance, fuelling and safety

Ÿ  Ensures day to day proper maintenance and cleanliness of the assigned vehicle

Ÿ  Completes the vehicle Log sheet for every movement or trip

Ÿ  Inspects the mechanical condition of the vehicle before embarking on any trip

Ÿ  Collects, delivers mail, official documents, and other items to the preferred destination

 

Ÿ  Ensures availability of all required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle Logbook, tools, map of the City/Country, first aid kit and necessary spare parts

Minimum qualifications and required competencies

Ÿ  Secondary School Certificate

Ÿ  3 years’ work experience as a Driver in volatile region; experience working in a Humanitarian context is a plus

Ÿ  Strict adherence to the traffic rules and familiar with regulations stipulated in the Traffic Act

Ÿ  Good command of spoken and written English and Somali language

Ÿ  Good interpersonal and customer service skills

Ÿ  Excellent geographical knowledge of the assigned region

Ÿ  Experience in driving 4/4, automatic and manual transmission vehicles

Ÿ  Automobile maintenance experience and basic knowledge of mechanics is an added advantage

Ÿ  Ability to work in a multicultural environment

Ÿ  First Aid certificate from a recognized institution will be an asset

Ÿ  Valid Driving Licence

Job 2: PROTECTION FIELD OFFICER, Kismayo, Somalia

About the Job

The Protection Field Officer contributes to the implementation and monitoring of ICRC’s Protection activities in Kismayo region.

This is a national/resident position based in Kismayo, Somalia.

Duties and Responsibilities

       Contributes to the implementation of Protection of Civilian Population (PCP) activities

       Assists with monitoring, documenting, and mapping of PCP cases and conflict-related or violent incidents with humanitarian consequences.

 

       Conducts field assessments either independently or as part of ICRC multidisciplinary teams focusing on the humanitarian needs of affected populations.

       Supports the Protection team in organizing visits to places of detention (PoDs).

       Collects basic information on possible Protection of Family Links (PFL) cases; sends it to PFL team for follow up.

       Maintains regular contacts with Somali Red Crescent Society (SRCS) PFL local branches/sub-branches with a focus on sharing context-related and security information.

       Assist the PFL team to organise, execute, and monitor their activities, specifically supporting the SRCS PFL team actions, trainings, and meetings.

       Contributes to the assessment and identification of priority protection issues for further monitoring and follow up.

       Liaises with the different interlocutors and stakeholders on varying issues of interest when required.

       Participates in the Protection Officers` monthly protection cluster meetings within the region

       Contributes to the definition of the annual objectives and plans of actions of the ICRC Protection department.

       Prepares the operational reports and regularly gives an account of the on ongoing activities including multidisciplinary assessments.

Minimum qualifications and required competencies

       Bachelor`s Degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies or an equivalent qualification in a related field of study

       At least 4 years of experience in a similar field of activities

       Knowledge of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) or International Human Rights Law (IHRL) is an asset

       Ability to network, represent the institution externally and dialogue with major stakeholders

       Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Somali

       Excellent administrative and organizational skills

       Upholds a high sense of responsibility and confidentiality

       Computer proficiency especially in MS Office suite
