Position title : Temporary SC Nurses (5)
Reporting to : Nutrition supervisor
Location : Burhakaba and Baidoa
Job summary:
S/he will be responsible for the coordination of medical, nursing and program in the Stabilization Centre. The SC Nurse is responsible for the initial assessment of the patients when they are in crisis to assure stabilization; will also interpret medical information, make decisions about possible admissions and assist or administer medications recognizing that the effective management of hospital depends on effective communication and participation of all members of the team.
Responsibilities:
- Obtains medical histories and provides medical screening.
- Follow the SC protocols for the medical care of the SAM cases with complications, and ensure that all protocols are understood and appropriate referrals take place to and from the OTP.
- Complete interviews and physical assessments of consumers.
- Responsible for updating the initial treatment plan with any medical issues, in conjunction with other staff.
- Schedules and assists with psychiatric assessments.
- Coordinate and implement discharge plans which may include outside community agencies.
- Follow up on medical concerns.
- Monitors with or without observation, withdrawal complications, possible medication side effects and emerging symptoms of mental illness.
- Provides health education to groups and/or individuals.
- Maintains up to date, well documented medical records, which comply with state and program requirements.
- Participates in case reviews as a member of the multidisciplinary staff.
- Monitors patient self- administration of medications and conducts audits on medication record documents to ensure accountability and compliance with medical direction.
- Appropriately initiate, maintain and terminate therapeutic relationships/partnerships.
- Practice within team settings, accepting responsibility for decisions and activities implemented.
- Procedural requirements are met in accordance with laid out policies and protocols.
- Accidents, incidents, errors/omissions are acknowledged, reported and documented promptly.
- Initiates action to reduce / correct / prevent actual or potential risks to patients and colleagues
- Effective time management, priority setting, co-ordination and communication skills are practiced.
- Ensure that the available equipment and supplies are used safely and economically.
- Accept referrals and organize the clinic for patients referred to the Medical Procedure clinic according to protocols and standards
- Ensure that all concerns, complaints and issues are brought to the attention of the Doctor in Charge in a timely and effective manner, in accordance with the Hospital policies and procedures.
- Maintain privacy and confidentiality
- Promote an environment of physical, occupational, cultural, ethical and legal safety
- Observe safe work practices, rules and instructions relating to work, and be pro-active in hazard management
- Willingly co-operate in the achievement of all health and safety goals and initiatives by:
- Practicing and observing:
- safe work methods;
- correct use of safety equipment
- reporting unsafe conditions or equipment
- reporting and documenting all accidents or incidents
- At all times ensures that personal data of donors, sponsors, SOS CV beneficiaries and their families as well as SOS co-workers is handled confidentially and in accordance with prevailing SOS-Kinderdorf International data protection laws.
- The employee performs other reasonable tasks as assigned from time to time.
Job competencies:
- Diploma in Community Health Nursing
- Registered with the Nursing Council of Somalia
- BLS/ACLS training
- Computer literate
- At least 3 to 4 years post qualification experience
- Adhere to dress code, appearance is neat and clean
- Complete annual education requirements
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times
- Report to work on time and as scheduled
- Wear identification while on duty
- Maintain regulatory requirements
- Represent the Hospital in a positive and professional manner at all times
- Comply with all policies and standards regarding ethical business practices
- Participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities
- Attend regular staff meetings and in-services
- Able to work without supervision
- Mentorship experience
- Good inter-personal skills
- Awareness of current professional nursing issues
