Position Summary

We are looking for an Excavator Operator to move dirt and other materials on the job site. Our ideal candidate has completed a relevant apprenticeship, but we consider all individuals possessing the appropriate skillset. You must be able to coordinate and collaborate with other workers and supervisors on-site, so clear communication skills are crucial. You should have the skills to operate most pieces of heavy equipment, such as a loader, dozer or backhoe.

Reports to:  Construction General Manager

Functional Relationships:  Site Engineers, Quantity Surveyor & Office & Logistics Assistant

Job Location:  Hargeisa, Somaliland

Contract:  Fixed Term (1 year)

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Manoeuvring motorized heavy equipment to ensure the accurate removal and placement of materials.

Loading and offloading rocks, debris, and other materials from heavy equipment. Observing stipulated safety codes at all times.

Communicating with co-workers to elucidate project specifications, as needed. Reporting injuries and other accidents to the line manager.

Advising the line manager of requisite upgrades, repairs, and replacements.

Aiding co-workers to ensure that the site is clean and organized at the end of each shift. Providing suggestions to refine workflow and boost efficiency.

Qualification Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.

Prior experience operating a variety of heavy equipment.

Trucking experience, including experience with both driving, loading and unloading materials is an asset.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Excellent vision or the use of prescribed lenses.

Exceptional manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination. A sound understanding of pertinent safety guidelines.

Capacity to provide and follow direction.
