To provide effective specialized support and technical analyses to policy and programme activities that effectively meet food assistance needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Work closely with the Country Office Monitoring and Evaluation and Vulnerability Analysis and Mapping (VAM) team on all VAM related activities in Galkayo & Galmudug Sub Offices.
2. Monitor the food security situation and support the development of systems and tools for the monitoring and assessment of food assistance needs.
3. Liaise with FSNAU and other food security forum and provide regular updates of the food security situation in the coverage area.
4. Support the development of food security and vulnerability analysis and the preparation of timely reports on food assessment needs.
5. Liaise with implementing partners to monitor ongoing projects, ensuring effective collaboration, timeliness and efficiency and highlight potential risks to project delivery.
6. Provide support to relevant partners that are focusing on food security and nutrition issues to enable sharing of experience, lessons learned and best practice.
7. Support the capacity building of WFP programme staff, partners, and national local government institutions to conduct vulnerability analysis.
8. Ensure timely submission of Early Warning Reports on the food security situation.
9. Coordinate with partners on timely submission of market monitoring reports and prevailing market prices.
10. Support the preparation and facilitation of WFP – Seasonal Analysis and Response planning workshops.
11. Prepare the monthly monitoring plan for WFP and CTG staff.
12. Prepare periodic monitoring reports and ensure the reports are submitted, reviewed and shared with M&E technical unit.
13. Participate in different surveys and assessment as required.
14. Support the Head of programme to capture issues reported in the Narrative Reports back to office reports (BTORs) into the WFP information management system.
15. Provide orientation to the cooperating partners on reporting guidelines and tools.
16. Follow up on the implementation and risks issues from the WFP call centre and provide or from back to office report and give feedback accordingly

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Secondary school education, supplemented with experience or additional education data collection, analysis and reporting skills, and knowledge in computer analysis packages

Experience: At least five years of progressively responsible support experience including at least two years in the field of M&E and VAM, IDP/refugee operations or programme related

Language: Proficiency in oral and written communication in Somali and English is a must.

Knowledge & Skills: 

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in programme, out of which at least two year experience of M&E and food security in similar project, UN, non-profit national or international organizations.
  • Experience in liaison with national counterparts such as local authorities, state agencies and ministries
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relations with counterparts and staff within the office and external stakeholders, including NGO partners, other UN agencies and/or private businesses.
  • Ability to plan and organize work, resourcefulness, initiative, and problem-solving skills.
