BACKGROUND:

Windle International Somalia (WISOM) is an International Non-Governmental organization with oversight support and coordination by Windle International Kenya. WISOM was founded with the belief that good education was essential if Africa was to meet the challenges it faced.

Windle International Somalia in partnership with Jubaland Teacher Training College (JTTC) plans to implement the Quality Secondary Education Project (QSE). The overarching goal of the QSE project is to improve long term access and provide quality secondary education for the community that are affected by conflicts and crisis in Somalia using innovative accelerated learning approaches and blended teacher training programs. WISOM envisages the following key outcomes:

· Improved and expanded access to quality secondary education outcomes through the provision of qualified teachers in Jubaland, Somalia.

· Contribute to building human capital in the education work force in Somalia thus reducing the teachers-pupils’ ratio in the basic education sub-sector.

· Strengthening the capacity of the Teachers College in Somalia through linkages with global institutions and incorporation of a blended approach of teaching through online platforms.

WISOM is seeking a suitable candidate to fill the position of an Education Project Assistant based in Kismayo.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

The Education Project Assistant (EPA) will provide leadership in the coordination, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the QSE Project. Their key responsibilities will include:

· Overall management support, coordination, and implementation of the project

· Work closely with JTTC in the identification and placement of the student-on the job teachers

· Provide support and direction and respond to student inquiries regarding the programme

· Continuously provide in -school monitoring to the student teachers

· Create and coordinate the Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) in the schools and encourage cross teaching and co-creation teaching methods

· Research and compile on Teacher Training opportunities and disseminate the information to the Persons of Concern

· Preparation of annual implementation plans for the project and ensure budgeted activities are implemented in a timely manner

· Promote ownership of the project amongst all the stakeholders in the project

· Coordinate and liaise with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Learning in Jubaland and Federal Government of Somalia department of Teacher Training for effective and efficient implementation of the Programme

· Develop suitable and effective educational monitoring and evaluation tools on the teacher gaps

· Provide reports of the project, document case studies, success stories and other lessons learnt

QUALIFICATIONS

· A degree in education

· 3 years’ experience in teaching and teachers’ education programs.

· Mastery of office software (MS Word, Excel, and Power Point)

· Demonstrated ability to write reports

· Demonstrated effectiveness in advising and coaching students
