About SOLLA

Somaliland lawyer’s association is non-political, non-profit making human right and legal professional association, which have founded by 40 professional lawyers in Jun 2004, and 95% of Somaliland lawyers are member. SOLLA is legally registered with Ministry of Justice, Somaliland, Reg # WC/XW/G02/12/2021 dated 31 March 2021 valid until 1 January 2022. SOLLA as a local professional association’s mandates are the enhancing the reputation of the Somaliland lawyers, to improve the quality of their performance in service delivery, and protection of the lawyer’s rights and observance for their duties; the realization of access justice, fair and independent judiciary, respect of human rights and proper application of the laws. Firstly, the promotion of the respect for human rights is one of the indispensable purposes of the Bar (SOLLA). Secondly the system of periodic reporting within the context of the major international human rights instruments is the Associational vital element in monitoring the full and effective national implementation of international human rights standards. SOLLA works with the local societal groups, government and other international communities to enhance strategies towards civil protection on the observance of the human rights and fundamental freedoms of the community.

What we seek:

Reporting to the national council, the Executive Director (ED) will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for SOLLA running including staff, programs, fundraising and execution of its mission.

The Executive Director will be high-level professional with proven leadership and management skills and strong knowledge of the international sustainability and development context. A confident presenter and analytical thinker, the successful candidate will demonstrate their ability to represent SOLLA and related program issues to a wide range of audiences including donors, government representatives, business leaders, and UN agencies and other INGOs/lNGOs to build relationships and networks in a culturally sensitive manner. An ability to engage and empower people and inspire others to perform and grow will go hand in hand with excellent communication, networking and implementation skills. The Executive Director will be the primary support to organizational fundraising efforts, including organization efforts to develop fee based income source. The ideal candidate should have experience managing mix of grant and fee-based income.

Key Responsibilities

Vision & Leadership

  • Inspire and motivate SOLLA staff to engage with and deliver on SOLLA’s mission
  • Strengthen the SOLLA membership, its reputation and credibility, seeking long term benefits to SOLLA members.

Governance

  • Cultivate a strong and transparent working relationship with the Board of Directors, General assembly and other stakeholders to support their respective important governance role
  • Report to National Council on organizational performance against SOLLA’s strategic objectives and annual work-plans and budget.
  • In liaison with Director of finance ensure preparation and regular review of quarterly, biannual and annual budgets and disbursement reports.

Financial Management

  • Develop sustainable financial models for the organization, including identification and exploration of potential alternative income streams, e.g. through fund raising and advocacy
  • In partnership with stakeholders, MO and national council develop and implement a national lawyer’s strategy, plan and steward key donor relationship

Organizational Management

  • Ensure programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications and systems.
  • Define organizational annual work plans and priorities in order to effectively achieve SOLLA’s mission
  • Ensure that staff, systems and other resource are aligned to deliver high impact outcome and operational efficiencies
  • Foster an enabling environment to encourage continuous learning and growth
  • Improve monitoring, evaluation and learning mechanisms at place for promoting organizational accountability and transparency
  • Work under SOLLA’s strategic purpose and priorities

Qualifications, attributes, skills and experience

  • Master’s degree in Business management, economics, governance or related field
  • Minimum 7years’ experience working in the field of Justice, conflict resolutions or relater of Somaliland in the national or international agencies.
  • Proven experience of developing and delivering strategy and communicating clearly about organizational priorities and well known of Somaliland context
  • Excellent public speaking abilities and experience in dealing with high level individuals (e.g., donors or government or corporate representatives) on a one-to-one basis.
  • Demonstrable experience building networks and relationships with a wide range of actors in diverse countries, including governments, INGOs/LNGOs. UN Agencies and ….
  • Strong collaborative decision making ability and inclusive.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.

Travel: The post holder will be required to undertake up to 30% of international/ local travel.

Annual leave: 21 days per year
