SOS Children’s Villages International is the umbrella organization to which all SOS Children’s Villages including SOS Children’s Villages Somalia Association is affiliated. SOS Children’s Villages Somalia has officially been working in Somalia since 1985. SOS is currently working in 134 countries worldwide. We are committed to the welfare of children – often throughout the whole of their childhood, and to strengthening families and communities as a preventive measure in the fight against abandonment and social neglect. We also run education and health facilities. With the SOS Children’s Village concept, the organization pioneered a family approach to the long-term care of orphaned and abandoned children. SOS Children’s Villages upholds child protection policy and our selection processes reflect our commitment to the protection of children and youth from abuse. SOS Children’s Villages Somalia currently works in five regions; Banadir Regions (almost all districts), Bay, Bakol and Lower Shabelle in Southwest State, Middle Shabelle in HirShabelle State.
SOS Children’s Villages invites applications from suitably qualified and interested candidates who fulfill the eligibility criterion for the below position.
Job Title: Pharmacist (1 Position)
Report to: Pharmacy incharge
Location: Heliwa – Mogadishu, Somalia
Job Summary:
The Employee assists with the preparation and distribution of pharmaceuticals, inventory management, and documentation. He/She works within a scope of responsibilities, code of ethics and understanding of the regulatory requirements in the Hospital Pharmacy.
Key performance areas and main responsibilities
1) Inventory and dispensing of medicine
- Check for expired medications
- Notify the pharmacist when stock is low
- Take in and handle out prescriptions
- Dispense prescriptions
- Use store’s computer systems to generate label and stock lists
- Help in maintaining reasonable dispensary stock levels
- Receive and/ or unload incoming goods coming in the hospital pharmacy
- Deliver pharmaceuticals goods to sites within a pharmacy department and clinical areas/wards/departments
- Sell over the counter medicines
- Pre-pack, assemble and label medicines
2) Patient care
- Answer queries on the availability and supply of medicines
- Respond to face to face and telephone enquiries of a routine nature from members of the public, patients, their representatives and a wide range of staff groups
- Create and maintain patient profiles
3) Health & Safety
- Promote an environment of physical, occupational, ethical and legal safety
- Observe safe work practices, rules and instructions relating to work, and be pro-active in hazard management
- Willingly co-operate in the achievement of all health and safety goals and initiatives
- Cleaning and sterilizing dispensing bottles and instruments
4) Data Protection
- At all times ensures that personal data of donors, sponsors, SOS CV beneficiaries and their families as well as SOS co-workers is handled confidentially and in accordance with prevailing SOS-Kinderdorf International data protection laws.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Diploma/Degree in Pharmacy.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the same position.

- Good time management skills
- To work effectively in a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic environment, respecting diversity.
