JOB DESCRIPTION – Physiotherapy Helper.

Background

The Somali Red Crescent Society (SRCS) is an independent, non-political humanitarian organization that was founded in April 1963 and was established with presidential decree No. 187 in 1965. It was then recognized by the ICRC in 1969 and in the same year became a member of the International Federation of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent societies.

The Somali Red Crescent Society is currently looking for a qualified candidate to fill the vacant positions of Physiotherapy Helper

Overall Job Purpose

Physiotherapy Helper at the SRCS Rehabilitation Program, here after referred to as the Physiotherapy Helper is guided by the Red Crescent & Red Cross Seven Principles (Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity, and Universality) and International Humanitarian Law, as well as the SRCS policy and strategy and procedures as established. The Physiotherapy Helper’s employment conditions are established and agreed upon separately.

The Physiotherapy Helper is an employee of the SRCS Rehabilitation Centre, Mogadishu. The position is in the Physiotherapy department of the SRCS Rehabilitation Center, which is part of the SRCS Rehabilitation Program for Disabled in Somalia, which again is a part of the Somali Red Crescent Society.

Roles, duties and Responsibilities

• Organise the sequences of the service users daily for the use of Gyme materials.
• Observe and follow up service users when using Gym area materials for corrections, and instruct them how to use.
• Help service users’ wheel chair transportation from the car to the department and vice versa
• Help physiotherapy staff the simple instructed exercise example using sand bags
• Prepare and write and the follow up plan of the Abduction braces for the club foot children
• Assist the parents instruct and show how to put on the  abduction braces for the club foot children, and check if there are any problems.
• Put the service users on standing bed after prescription the physiotherapy staff
• Perform any other duties assigned by his/her superior

Reporting

• Collect day to day information and report to physiotherapy Assistants.
• Report to the f physiotherapy Assistant any problem about equipment if there is need to repair or replace.

• Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to the fundamental principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
• Effective communications and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrate openness to change & ability to help complexities
• Demonstrated conflict resolution skills and ability to help intergroup dynamics and mediate conflicting interests
• Excellent writing skills and findings for the preparation of quality reports
• Possess sharp problem solving skills and ethical behaviour

Minimum Requirements:

• Secondary school graduate (Health related education will be an added value).
• Should have relevant experience ( being SRCS volunteer is an added value)
• High commitment and ability to work under pressure
• Basic computer skills (Word, excel, power point)
• Good communication skills in Somali & English language
