In Somalia, the World Food Programme provides food assistance for nutrition, livelihoods, and relief through the hard work of more than 500 employees who contribute to make Somalia hunger free in close partnership with local partners.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Under the direct supervision of the Joint Resilience Project Coordinator and overall supervision of the Deputy Head of Programme, the consultant will:

  • Support transition of various programme activities in different phases.
  • Monitor field level agreements with Cooperating Partners (CPs) and trainings for Community Health Workers (CHWs), including monitoring of nutrition commodities and e-vegetables.
  • Monitoring of Social Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) activities, including monitoring of school kitchens, and supervise the development  of the recipe book.
  • Implement SBCC for men activities and refresher trainings for CHWS, Community Education Committees (CECs) and school kitchens.
  • In collaboration with UNICEF and WFP M&E unit, lead and contribute to SBCC in schools and for men assessments, studies and surveys.
  • Follow-up on activity workplans, budgets and monitoring data; provide the necessary information and analysis for donor reports;
  • Coordinate project activities with UNICEF and FAO where necessary including joint monitoring field missions, trainings, recommendations to the CPs and facilitate exchange with line ministries.
  • Deputize the project management and backstop all project management and coordination functions.
  • Design and field-test products to mainstream nutrition-sensitive SBCC into food systems programming, nutrition and school meals, and social safety nets.
  • Undertake a pilot study to link home grown school feeding/CECs with farmer cooperatives and ensure a robust learning agenda is embedded into the study.
  • Support the implementation of the Home Deliveries pilot in close collaboration with the Logistic unit and the Dolow Office.
  • Facilitate trainings on school gardens to partners and CEC in all regions of Somalia. Provide technical support and monitoring of school’s gardens with partners and Ministry of Education.
  • Build capacity of nutrition focal points in WFP Area Offices.
  • Work closely with nutrition, school feeding focal points and other functional units to coordinate project activities.
  • Perform any other duties in line with the profile and expertise.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: An advanced degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Food Technology or Medicine.

Experience: Five or more years of postgraduate professional experience in design and implementation of Public Health/Nutrition programmes including schools in arid or semi-arid regions.

Language: Proficiency in oral and written communication in English.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Experience in monitoring and evaluation of community based public health programs
  • Knowledge in school feeding, resilience, food systems, agriculture value chains and integrated programming is an added advantage.
  • Experience in leading nutrition capacity building activities for different technical and multicultural teams.
  • Ability to establish and maintain strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce and present high-quality written outputs.
  • Ability to design of data and information collection tools, analyse and consolidate quantitative and qualitative information.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

Contract Duration: 11 months (initial)
