Cook Stove Expert – Somali Regional State of Ethiopia
Background
Save the Environment Ethiopia is a local Non Governmental non-profit organization working on Environmental protection and rehabilitation, energy, livelihood and shelter programs over the past 10 years with the ambition of addressing environmental protection in the country wide.
Duties and Responsibilities;
The job holder is responsible to coordinate the implementation of the project at Melkadida Operation level in collaboration with partners, local stakeholder’s community renewable energy committees. Moreover, she or he will provide professional work involving supervision and coordination of manufactured and distributed energy Saving Stoves and capacity building support to direct beneficiaries to sustain the results of the project. The job holder specifically bears the following duties and responsibilities
- Follow up production/purchase, quality control, transportation of energy efficient cook stoves to the distribution points
- Follow up on time delivery of energy efficient stoves to households and monitor proper usage
- Lead and carry out carbon monitoring with high quality and ensuring fulfillment of the requirements
- Prepare regular reports to the donors and government concerned bodies ensuring that reporting requirements are met and submitted on time and in high quality
- Enforce stewardship by ensuring efficient and effective utilization of project resources for the intended purpose in the project
- Coordinate all of the project implementation as per project design document and schedules
- Engagement in team work with other sectors and climate change & environment program initiatives
- Closely work and network with zonal and district level concerned stakeholders for planning, implementation, reporting and documentation
- Development of a strategy including cost assumptions on the introduction of a system of standards for institutional cook stoves and testing mechanisms of installed stoves in the field;
- Gender and environmental assessment;
- Development of training manuals for manufacturers to ensure manufacturers meet requirements when production starts
- Providing support and advice on the deployment of energy saving cooking stoves
- Providing support and advice on the selection of the most efficient and energy saving cooking stoves
- Monitoring , evaluating and reporting on performance and adoption of energy saving cooking stoves
- Documenting the lessons learnt in the implantation of the project and making recommendations for future interventions
- Proposing solutions to emerging challenges in the project implementation
- Supporting the development, production, distribution and utilization of energy saving cooking stoves
- Any other duties as may be assigned by the program coordinator/program manager
Reporting;
- Coordinate the production of all narrative reports from and provide feedback to improve product quality, accuracy, and style
- Ensure high quality, timely and coherent reporting, both financial and narrative
- Be responsible for submission of donor reports and information, communication of compliance questions or project challenges.
- Ensure that the project team and Partners are aware of all relevant communication, changes in regulations, and meetings or conferences.
Reports to: Energy coordinator and Area manager
Number of positions required: 1 (one)
Location: Melkadida refugee operation
Duration: 9 months with possibility of extension
Job starting time: Immediately
Job Requirements
- BSc. in mechanical engineering, Agricultural engineering or related fields.
- Must have over 3-years working experience in renewable and energy efficient technologies, biomass energy/briquette production in humanitarians setup.
- Excellent analytical skills and strong commitment to sharing expertise and experience in order to develop capacity of others, and work as a member/advisor of a team
- Strong communication skills; able to communicate effectively with people and able to write concisely and make presentations in a simple non-technical manner
- Excellent analytical, organizational and negotiation skills. Ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy
Desirable qualifications, experience and competences
- Knowledge of UN system, experience with field level coordination with UN organization, INGOs, Donors and authorities
- Knowledge of local or English Language
- Understanding of various donor’s requirement
- Ability to work under pressure and with little supervision
