VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT:

Title: Driver

Location: Burao, Togdheer, Somaliland.

Reporting to: Admin and Finance Officer

Barwaaqo Voluntary Organization (BVO) is a non-political, non-governmental, and non-profit making development action-oriented and advocacy organization that was founded in 1996 by a committed gender balanced group in Somaliland. BVO strives to perform social development work in Somaliland and has been implementing climate change, environmental protection, and livelihood programs in the country, which enables the finding of solutions to Somaliland’s environmental challenges. BVO fights hunger and promotes poverty reduction, human rights, women’s and children’s rights, and justice for all.

BVO has also been involved in women’s political participation and economic empowerment, and provides FGM awareness campaigns as well as implements projects aimed to tackle gender-based violence (GBV) in Somaliland. BVO operates in all six regions of Somaliland.

The purpose of the position

To provide effective transport facilitation to the staff and visitors, program staff in order to attain

Objectives of the organization’s success as well as delivery/collection services of documents.

And goods, related to the official work of BVO.

Responsibilities:

  • To safely guide and maintain the vehicles,
  • Submit the condition of the vehicle to the administration each month.
  • Immediately report to the admin or executive director if any accident occurs.
  • Collecting staff in the morning to go to the office and back home in the afternoon
  • Taking field staff and staying in the field with field staff.
  • Must park the vehicle in the assigned garage after working hours.
  • Should not move the vehicle without the permission of the administration.
  • Afternoon movement is not allowed unless there is written permission.
  • must fill out vehicle log book and obtain signatures from anyone he/she transports
  • Ensuring that vehicles have sufficient gas and are always ready for use.
  • Other tasks assigned by the administration
  • Obey and implement organizational policies and procedures.

Qualifications, Experience, and Competencies

  • Completion of secondary school or relevant education level.
  • At least 5 years’ work experience in a similar position and 2 years in a humanitarian environment with local or international NGOs
  • Strict adherence to the traffic rules and familiarity with the regulations stipulated in the Traffic Act of Somaliland
  • Can communicate verbally and write in English and Somali.
  • Interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent geographical knowledge of Somaliland, in particular the Togdheer region (Burao and Odweyne).
  • Driving experience with 4/4, automatic, and manual transmission vehicles
  • Automobile maintenance experience or basic knowledge of mechanics is an added advantage.
  • Should have a valid driving license in Somaliland.
  • Willingness to be based in Burao and frequently travel to field locations ( Odweyne)

  • Good interpersonal skills are essential for establishing and maintaining productive working relationships.
  • excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with people from a variety of professional and national backgrounds
  • You must be highly motivated, enthusiastic, well-organized, and capable of working under pressure.
  • You may be required to work irregular hours in accordance with the needs of the role;
