Under the clinical officer’s overall direction, the Laboratory Technician will provide technical support to the project team in the area of laboratory operations and oversee inventory and administration work in the laboratory. | |||||||||

| 8. Specific duties & responsibilities | Job Responsibilities
§ Perform Laboratory investigations as per clinician’s request and ensure accurate, reliable and timely results § Ensure laboratory tests are performed accurately and timely § Ensure proper collection, packaging and transportation of laboratory samples to other outsourced centres in case of complex cases. § Collect patient body fluid, tissue or blood samples, conduct the tests and prepare the reports applying international sterilization and biosafety standards. § Maintain strict Laboratory Quality Check Standards, including regular equipment function verification, equipment calibration and ongoing troubleshooting efforts. § Ensure that all relevant records are updated and maintained. § Arrange timely delivery of the reports to the patients and doctor. § Keep a record of the consumables and reagents and generate the demand periodically to ensure regular supply. § Collects and labels urine, stool and sputum samples for different tests following international biosafety standards. § Monitor and supervise proper usage of laboratory reagents. § Ensure SOP’s are used at all times. § Ensure proper storage of laboratory reagents and cold chain system to avoid compromised reagents that may lead to false reporting. § Preparing of stains, reagents and solutions necessary for all lab tests § Maintain Laboratory machines in good order- cleaning and covering after use. § Report any unusual statistics or observations to the supervisor. § Ensure all laboratory medical wastes are disposed of in the recommended manner, including incineration. § Ensure all laboratory reports are done on time and sent to Supervisor, HMIS, and other offices as may be indicated. § On request, perform any additional duties or instruction given by the Clinical officer. |
