Job Description

SOS Children’s Villages invites applications from suitably qualified and interested candidates who fulfill the eligibility criterion for the below positions of Doctor-Paediatric (Stabilization centre).

Job Title: Temporary Doctor-Paediatric (Stabilization centre) (2 position)

Location: Heliwa-Mogadishu

Job Summary:

The Medical Doctor oversees all activities within the SOS Paediatric Hospital in order to achieve the highest level of medical care possible. The incumbent supervises co-ordinates and oversees the daily work of other medical staff. In addition, s/he maintains a close involvement with patient health-care, and personally attends to more complex cases referred by the nurse.

Direct Supervisor: Doctor in Charge.

Key Area of responsibility:

  • Prescribe or administer treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness or disease in infants and children
  • Examine children regularly to assess their growth and development.
  • Treat children who have minor illnesses, acute and chronic health problems (Moderate &Sever Acute malnutrition), and growth and development concerns.
  • Examine patients or order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests to obtain information on medical condition and determine diagnosis.
  • Advise patients, parents or guardians, and community members concerning diet, activity, hygiene, and disease prevention.
  • Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients and parents or guardians.
  • Collect, record, and maintain patient information, such as medical history, reports, or examination results.
  • Monitor patients’ conditions and progress and reevaluate treatments as necessary.
  • Direct and coordinate activities of nurses, students, and other medical staff.
  • Plan and execute medical care programs to aid in the mental and physical growth and development of children and adolescents.
  • Refer patient to medical specialist or another practitioner when necessary.
  • Teach medical students about pediatric topics.
  • Provide consulting services to other physicians.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Medicine and Surgery from recognized University
  • Experience in Providing IMAM, IMCI, NPR, and ETAT+ in a busy hospital or referral health Centre.
  • 4-5 years’ experience working in a busy IMAM service offering inpatient hospital care/pediatric ward.
  • Demonstrated competency in staff capacity building.
  • Excellent command in Somali/English languages
  • Computer skills (Ms word, excel, internet)

  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure
  • Active listener, patient and calm
  • Excellent counseling, communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Observing client confidentiality and privacy
