PAH in Somalia is looking for:

Head of Programmes

The person will be based in our office in Mogadishu and will hold the following responsibilities:

Programme staff management and capacity building:

  • Leads the programs team for the Somalia mission, including hiring and management of staff, performance reviews and developing supportive relations and develops project staff.

Program strategy and program development:

  • In cooperation with the Head of Mission, develops a long-term strategy for programmes on the mission in Somalia, operationalizes and leads its implementation.
  • Identifies new sources of funding, positions, leads needs assessments, designs programs, develops proposals and negotiates partnerships.

Programme quality assurance:

  • Defines the common approach and standards for WASH, emergency shelter/NFI, food security and livelihoods program and monitors their coherent application across programmes.
  • Leads the documentation of lessons learnt and ensures these lessons are incorporated into new programmes.

Programme Implementation & Coordination:

  • Controls the timely and effective implementation of activities as well as use of budget and other resources enabling synergies in the programme.

Representation:

  • Liaises and engages in cooperation with stakeholders such as donors, institutions, authorities, international and national non-governmental organizations, international organizations (IOs), and clusters representing PAH.

What PAH requires:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in humanitarian sector including experience with at least one institutional donor,
  • Documented successes in applying for institutional and private funds,
  • Strong communication skills in a culturally diverse environment,
  • Resourcefulness, initiative,
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines,
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills,
  • At least a C1 proficiency in written and spoken English,
  • Good knowledge of MS Office packages,
  • Bachelor’s degree.

PAH in Somalia:

Polish Humanitarian Action (PAH) is present in Somalia since 2011 and implements projects in FSL and WASH. We operate through 1 head office and 2 field offices covering areas in Banadiir, Middle Shabelle, Lower Shabelle and Galmuudug.

PAH’s current activities in Somalia include:

  • provision of safe and sufficient water to the communities in emergency (achieved by rehabilitating crucial water points and increasing capacity of water points) – including Water for Schools component;
  • construction of gender-sensitive, emergency latrines in the most populated IDP settlements;
  • increasing awareness of hygiene practices among communities, including intensive gender-sensitive hygiene campaigns;
  • direct cash transfers to most vulnerable households in the IDPs settlements;
  • distribution of Shelter materials and WASH NFIs to IDP households affected by evictions, displacement or natural disasters.

Since the establishment of PAH’s mission in Somalia, we have worked with a variety of partners through a diverse funding portfolio. Partnering with local NGOs, iNGOs, UN agencies, institutional donors, local leaders and regional administrations, PAH has been continuing to provide efficient humanitarian aid. Our projects are funded by ECHO, UNICEF, SHF, Achenova and other donors.
