Job Description

We are seeking passionate teachers, who thoroughly enjoy teaching the English Language, excel in their ability to reach and support students and take endless pride and countless hours to design inspiring and engaging English Language lesson plans and teaching units. Role: English Teacher

Reporting to: Principal

Location: Sheikh, Somaliland

Contract Type: Fixed Term

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Working in close collaboration with the principal, the English Teacher will be responsible for designing and providing English lessons and learning opportunities that are engaging, show a depth of teacher-subject competence and allow students to develop and demonstrate English speaking and writing skills.

Regularly incorporate computer technology into the students’ English learning experience as appropriate.

Regularly monitor and track each student’s English proficiency and provide the necessary support to ensure overall development.

Help students improve their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills via individual and group sessions.

Regularly monitor in-class discipline and provide counselling and support by working together with school leadership and other teachers.

Actively participate and deliver tutorials, co-curricular activities, and other activities conducted in a boarding school environment and as stipulated by the Ministry of Education.

Supporting the recruitment process of new students for the Secondary School as appropriate

Skills and Qualifications

The ideal person should possess at minimum a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and preferably specialised in English Language or Literature. A Master’s Degree will be an added advantage.

Possession of a nationally or internationally recognised TEFL certificate is a requisite for this role.

Have a minimum of Five (5) years of English Language teaching experience at the Secondary School level.

Experience working in an internationally based organisation or international school setting.

Proficient in Word, Excel, Email usage, Google Suite, internet searching, and willing to learn new computer skills.

Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills in English.

Behavioural Competencies

Must possess high levels of integrity, resilience, accountability, commitment and determination, and be willing to serve as an outstanding role model in the community.

Has an excellent command of the English Language along with clear and articulate

pronunciation.

Able to demonstrate English learner-centred teaching methodologies and eagerness to continue to learn.

Experienced in working with schools that are mission-driven for academic excellence and student engagement.

Dedicated team player with demonstrable experience in problem-solving.

Committed to and passionate about teaching the English Language at the Secondary School level and highly motivated towards student development and growth.

Willingness to teach and support students in their English language development. Must be of good moral character, honest, trustworthy, and dependable

Possesses and continually develops a working knowledge of national curriculum programmes and frameworks.

Ability to assess and record student development, while identifying areas that need attention and improvement.

Ability to provide a safe, positive learning environment for students.
