About the Job

The Assistant Cook works under the Supervision of the Head Cook. He/she assists the Head Cook in preparation of meals and cleaning of the Kitchen and the surrounding areas while adhering to the standard food, safety, and health procedures.

This is a national/resident position based in Hargeisa, Somalia.

Duties and Responsibilities

Shops for food items and assists in preparation of meals in the Kitchen
Keeps the working tools and environment clean and in good condition
Disposes Kitchen waste as per the set guidelines
Informs the Supervisor of any maintenance requirements such as leakages in the Kitchen area
Observes the stipulated hygiene standards while preparing meals and ensures there is no food wastage
Informs the supervisor of broken/faulty equipment for replacements or repair of the same
Ensures that cleanliness is maintained in the Kitchen, surrounding areas, surfaces, cabinets and dining area
Observes with the standard hygiene and safety standards for the offices, premises, and the compound

Skills and Qualifications

Primary School certificate and Vocational Training certificate
2 years’ experience in a similar position in a busy kitchen
Knowledgeable of Kitchen and Food Hygiene Principles
Fluent in written and spoken Somali
Elementary level English
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Basic computer skills
