- Introduction
Bushra Microfinance is a unique Somali-owned financial services provider founded by scholars who have vast experience in the microfinance industry. It was previously known as Somali Women Welfare Trust. We are licensed and regulated by Central Bank of Somalia as a Microfinance Institution (MFI) and registered with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of Federal Government of Somalia to conduct micro finance business.
Bushra MFI is licensed Islamic compliant women-owned microfinance institution based in Mogadishu, Somalia, and has offices in Galmudug, Hirshabele and Jubba-land states in Somalia. Our vision is to become leading microfinance institution in Somali and provide financial services including Islamic compliant instalments to both poor and middle-income people in Somalia.
- Project Background
Bushra Microfinance Services has received fund from Spark in the Implementation of the Somalia LEAD 2 Program.
The Direct beneficiaries of this project will compose of two different groups:
- Youth entrepreneurs/ small business owners
The Project will support 5 groups composing of at least 4 members per group for youth that own or run small business, the goal is to support the young men and women that own small business and are vulnerable to lose their business due to lack of enough funds to sustain their business.
- Women small business owners
The project will also support with commission free loans to 5 groups of women of 4 members at least per group who are lacking enough cash to sustain their business and/or make it more profitable.
2.1. Objectives of the project:
Supporting women owned small businesses and start-ups by providing access to finance to sustain their business
Enhancing the profitability and sustainability of youth small business through providing free commission loans.
Enhancing the skills and capacity of young people both women and men on small businesses and access to markets
Supporting vulnerable and at-risk youth entrepreneurs through financing their business ideas and start-ups
2.2. Project Activities:
The project will undertake the following activities:
- Developing Request for expression of interest for capacity building program for youth and women owning small business/ establishing new start ups.
- Advertising the Request for Expression of interests.
- Evaluation the expression of the interests and shortlisting.
- Submitting request for proposals to the shortlisted applications.
- Evaluation the proposals
- Conducting Due diligences on the applications with successful proposals.
- Recruiting trainers that will provide trainings to applicants.
- Preparing the training venues, stationaries etc.
- Providing trainings and capacity building programs for youth and women small business owners on business development, access to markets and business sustainability. :
- Giving out certificates to the applicants successfully completed the trainings.
3.1. Target Beneficiaries
Target beneficiaries of 40 youth and women entrepreneurs who have existing SMEs or starting up new SMEs will be trained on business development, access to markets and business sustainability.
The beneficiaries will be selected competitively, by advertising request for expression of interests from the Somali youth and women entrepreneurs who have an existing business or are planning new start-ups
3.2.Training Objectives and Outcomes
The objective of this training is to equip existing SMEs and New start-ups with skills and knowledge of managing business (financial, admirative and marketing) as well as train them on how to access the market and sustain their business.
Expected Outcomes
- Existing SMEs and New start-ups Training plan and modules are properly designed, documented, and delivered.
- Training participants will develop a comprehensive business idea and develop a bankable business plan
- Training participants will be able to utilize their financial literacy skills to start and run their business in a professional manner.
3.3.Trainings that will be provided to the Participants:
Different Trainings will be provided to the project beneficiaries, among these trainings are:
- Business Management
- Access to Markets and
- Business Sustainability
Scope of the Consultancy Service
Bushra MFI is looking for 3 experienced Training facilitators who will train an existing and new start-up SMEs in Mogadishu, Somalia. Therefore, qualified, and experienced business trainers are highly encouraged to apply and submit their expression of interests in the Email below. Qualified female facilitators are highly encouraged to apply.
The trainings that will be provided to the participants are composed of the following topics:
- Business Management
- Access to Markets (including Loan utilization and repayments knowledge)
- Business Sustainability
several topics/areas including but not limited to business management (financial, administrative, marketing, customer services, and human resources modules), access to market and equip them with knowledge and skills of sustaining their businesses. The training shall be based on real-life examples adapted to the context.
Each Selected SME will nominate 1 participant for the trainings, therefore, 40 participants will benefit from the training.
A training facilitator must only apply to one training that he/she has the required experience, knowledge, and skills.
Each training will take 10 working days for the training to be delivered, also the facilitator is required to prepare and provide the training materials (including the topics, agenda, presentations, learning materials etc). Also, the training facilitator is required to prepare and share training report that covers, the pre-training assessment, post training evaluations and the details of the training delivered.
- Training methodology
The consultant shall be expected to design and employ appropriate methods that will yield the best results about the achievement of the training objectives. This shall include but shall not be limited to
Group work.
A participatory and trainee-centered approach employ concrete examples and scenarios

- Timeframe
The facilitators will work for a period of 30 days which will include developing and preparing training materials, training facilitation and reporting. However, the facilitator will be paid against the 10 working days that the training is taking place.
6.Training Deliverables
- Training Materials developed
- Training handouts including PPTs
- Training Assessment (pre and post training assessments)
- Training Report
Skills and Qualifications
- Advanced university degree in Business administration/management, Development Studies, Economics, or a related discipline
- Extensive experience in market and business research, business skills development and entrepreneurship trainings
- Strong analytical and writing skills and the ability to clearly present findings and drawing practical conclusions and recommendations
- At least 3 years of experience in delivering trainings and capacity building programs.
- Must provide a prove of at least 5 trainings provided to SMEs and similar participants.
- Good track record of report writing skills and computer literacy.
- Fluency in English both writing and speaking as well as fluency in the Somali Language
Reporting
The facilitators will be required to write and produce a precise final training report written in simple and clear English language. The draft report shall be shared with Bushra MFI for review and inputs. Bushra MFI will share the reporting template during the training.
- Expression of Interest
Potential candidates are required to provide detailed CV with expression of interest detailing your prior experience and interest of conducing the training
Individual trainers will be considered not firms
- Training Duration:
The training program is expected to commence on September 20, 2022
