JOB PURPOSE

Horn International Relief and Development Organization (HIRDO) works with local communities in order to strengthen and develop nutrition and health care systems and to improve the accessibility and quality of preventative and treatment services.

OBJECTIVES AND GENERAL CHARACTERISTIC

The nutrition supervisor will support HIRDO in managing nutrition activities at the static OTP and outreach centers in areas affected by intra-communal violence and drought. He/she will provides technical support through regular supervision of nutrition nurses and nutrition assistants and ensure nutrition activities are carried out as plan in all the standalone OTP sites for children < 5years, pregnant and lactating women. The nutrition supervisor will work closely with district health department and community leaders to support nutrition activities in hard to reach areas. Improve on data collection, Analysis and reporting system, collaborate with other HIRDO health/nutrition project team for the timely and effective implementation of project activities.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Programme implementation, development and monitoring
  1. Ensure that nutrition project utilize standardized protocols, policies and guidelines for prevention ,diagnosis and treatment of malnutrition as recommended by nutrition cluster, MoH, HIRDO and other
  2. Supervise the provision of OTP for SAM/MAM patients and ensure timely admission or referral as required in the CMAM
  • Facilitate the integration of health/nutrition activities in the community during outreach services.
  1. Facilitate the organization of weekly nutrition outreaches, breast feeding, cooking demonstration session with nutrition staff at the sites and in the
  2. Facilitate the organization of nutrition related campaigns g. (World breast feeding week and VASD campaigns) in the community.
  3. Assist Programme Coordinator in conducting programme data review.
  • In collaboration with district health department, organize and implement trainings and refresher trainings for local recruited health/nutrition staff, based on identified trainings needs and according to the work plan
  • Assist in formation of mother to mother support group in all the sites, train them on demonstration kitchen gardening and MIYCN counseling key
  1. In collaboration with DHD-District Health Department, provide continuous capacity building, monitoring and supervision of local staff ensuring compliance with the basic nutrition knowledge in running nutrition services.
  2. Assist Health and Nutrition programme coordinator in developing monthly, quarterly and annual work plans as per HIRDO and donor’s
  3. Ensure activities are conducted as per work
  • If required, participant in the conduction of need-assessment/ surveys in the project catchment area and assist programme coordinator in developing new project

2.    Programme coordination within the programme and with partners.

  1. Assist in coordinating across the different components of the project to ensure effective integration and continuum of
  2. Organize and lead weekly meeting with DHD-District Health Department and other relevant partners and authorities; Represent HIRDO in the nutrition stakeholders’ fora at district level and state level (Namely; nutrition cluster’s meeting and surveillance meetings)
  • Assist nutrition programme coordinator during preparation of monthly and quarterly
  1. Accurate and timely collection, presentation of programme
  2. Periodical report to nutrition programme coordinator on the activities performance, main challenges and lesson learned and ensure all the activities are carried out according to the work plan.
  3. Submit timely and quality reports as per HIRDO and donor’s requirement and provide
  • In collaboration with store keepers, prepare, collect and register all relevant health and nutrition data and nutrition commodity reports

REPORTING RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain supply consumption reports
  • Submission of OTP reports for data analysis on NIS.
  • Maintain report record files
  • Maintain session record
  • Report on any issues related to nutrition programme for

Qualifications/ Experience

  • BSc/Diploma of nursing , Human nutrition and dietetic, c1inical medicine or related field with a minimum of one year relevant experience for BSc holder, and two years relevant experience for diploma
  • Previous experience working with INGO in clinical setting is an asset
  • Strong verbal and written, communication and presentation skills;
  • Must be able to read, speak and write fluent English and Somali language
  • Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult/frustrating working conditions or in emergency
  • MUST be computer literate and experience in nutrition information system (NIS) software is highly
  • Ability to support the management of project
  • Ability to multi-task.
