Role Title: Business Manager

Role Purpose: The Business Manager is responsible for providing exceptional leadership and management of DANWADA Business Operations.

Reports to/supported by: Chairman, Board of Directors

Direct reports: Departmental Officers/Heads

External Contacts: Customers, Service Providers, Government institutions, Auditors and other stakeholders

Location: Dangorayo

Duration of the Contract:

One Year with the possibility of Extension

The Business Manager provides leadership for all aspects of the company’s operations with an emphasis on long-term goals, growth, profit, and return on investment. The role leads a cohesive and coordinated approach to improving water infrastructure, supply and services provided by DANWADA that retain independent governance and commercial autonomy to ensure a better balance between commercial, government and community objectives.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the ongoing operations of all divisions in the company.
  • Manages and directs the company toward its primary goals and objectives.
  • Oversees employment decisions at the operational level of the company.
  • Leads a team of department heads/officer, supervisors and technicians in the daily business decisions in the approved thresholds.
  • Promotes communication and cooperation among divisions to create a spirit of unity in the company.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Works with the board of directors and head of departments/officers to establish short-term objectives and long-range goals, and related plans and policies.
  • With the support of the admin and finance leads and department heads, prepares the annual plans, and budgets and submits to the Board of Directors for approvals
  • Approves all the expenditures incurred by the company and activities according to the approved annual budget and the approved thresholds.
  • Presents regular reports on the status of the company’s operations to the board of directors, external agencies, government institutions and to company staff as required.
  • Oversees the company’s financial structure, ensuring adequate and sound financial management in place.
  • Effectively manages the human resources of the company according to authorized personnel policies and procedures that fully conform to current laws and regulations.
  • Reviews the financial results of all operations, comparing them with the company’s objectives and taking appropriate measures to correct unsatisfactory performance and results.
  • Ensures the company’s compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, and standards.
  • Serves as the company’s representative to the board of directors, shareholders, employees, customers, the government, and the public forums.
  • Assures the company’s mission, vision and services are
    consistently presented in all forums in a strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders.
  • Performs other related duties to benefit the company’s long objectives and strategies.
  • Performs other assigned responsibilities as delegated by the Board of Directors.

Skills and Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent managerial and financial skills and the ability to take leadership over any business operations area.
  • Superlative communication skills, particularly the ability to communicate as a leader.
  • Thorough understanding of management and financial practices in all areas and phases of business operations.
  • Experience in developing profitable strategies for the business and implementable plans.
  • Strong understanding of corporate finance and performance management principles.
  • Familiarity with diverse business functions such as accounting, marketing and personnel management etc.
  • Know-how to write developmental initiative concept notes and progress reports
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate governance and general management best practices
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with outstanding organizational and leadership skills
  • Analytical abilities and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent public speaking skills

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Operations management, project management, public administration, finance, or accounting is required.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in leadership roles in public or private enterprises in a senior position with reporting lines.
  • Advanced degree in business administration, Operations management, and project management is preferred, but not a must.
