Himilo Organization for Development (HOD) is non-profit making, non-sectarian, humanitarian relief and development organization that was founded 2010 as a local non-governmental organization (LNGO) in Somalia. HOD operates in South Central Somalia, Jubaland, Galmudug and Puntland state of Somalia. Its top priority is to create an environment that is conductive to sustainable development by helping communities to secure peace, sustainable development and attain self-reliance

POSITION SUMMARY

The Grants Officer will coordinate and support the administration of all grant awards.

  • In coordination with the Programs Manager, s/he is responsible for ensuring the preparation, implementation, monitoring, and completion of project by ensuring compliance with the financial management, reporting, and accountability as per the Donor requirements.
  • Under the direction of the Programs Manager, the Grants Officer serves either as a lead team member in developing and writing grant proposals to Donor organizations and government agencies in order to obtain funding.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Programs Manager in the administration of grants program and ensuring compliance with donor guidelines.
  • In coordination with the Programs Manager, perform periodic reviews in order to review compliance with grant requirements and HOD/Donor regulations, so as to detect and resolve implementation problems.
  • Support the Finance Manager and Programs Manager in the administration and oversight of grant expenditures in accordance with HOD and DONOR guidelines.
  • Maintain good reporting processes for all grants, reporting any grants pipeline issues to management on a monthly basis, or as soon as possible.
  • Assist with tracking costs of grants
  • Maintain and update a detailed grants status calendar and grants  filing system (physical & electronic)
  • Ensure the presentation and safekeeping of accurate and complete supporting documents / information for audit purposes
  • Assist in the preparation of all supporting information for audits and contacting finance and accounting staff as needed
  • Guarantee the reliability and integrity of supporting documentation and reports
  • Understand the terms of all Donor grants, specifically the expected results of the project, and ensure compliance with the requirements.

Skills and Qualifications

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Project management experience; experience in all aspects of donor cycle
  • Strong background in financial management systems
  • Experience in budget analysis and cost controls in development projects
  • Possess a high level of interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially with Excel and word
  • Ability to multitask and work independently and collaboratively to meet weekly, monthly, and quarterly deadlines
  • Ability to prepare presentations and reports
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Good written and oral English proficiency
  • Initiative, coordination and organizational skills
  • Ability to network and maintain close communication with peers and colleagues in similar or related types of jobs in similar organizations
  • Possess a high degree of flexibility and adaptability to various situations
  • Willingness to work and travel in all project areas

A Bachelor’s Degree is required.  Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of professional work experience, with some knowledge or background in nonprofits or grant making and/or management systems. Knowledge of the Somali working context and general communities is an advantage.
