Background
The 7 institute is an independent research institute in Somalia that promotes community-based solutions. The institute was established in Mogadishu on 5 January 2019 by Somalia experts motivated by patriotism and a desire to find the finest solutions to the country’s everyday concerns. The main objective of the 7 institute is to improve and reshape Somali research infrastructure and human capacity by conducting rigorous applied research and encouraging research utilization among the community, government, and non-governmental organizations. The institute focuses on technology-based business research to increase business productivity and innovations, public administration for guidance and policymaking, and economic sector-related research to monitor and control the country’s economy.
Job Description
The Research Manager will be responsible for developing and managing research studies and projects supporting the 7 institute’s Research objectives. The Research Manager will work with internal and external stakeholders to identify research needs, develop study designs, manage data collection and analysis, and prepare reports and presentations of findings. The Research Manager will also be responsible for staying up-to-date and best practices in research methods and data analysis.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Organizing daily activities based on the goals of the organization
- Plan, design, and implement research projects.
- Review and make recommendations for planning and research studies
- Managing a team of researchers to help them complete their work on time
- Ensuring that research methods are ethical and legal, including obtaining Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval for projects involving Economic inside and General Research.
- Developing and managing budgets for each project
- Managing staff members to ensure that they complete tasks promptly.
- Reviewing research proposals, budgets, and study designs to determine the feasibility.
- Reviewing research findings to ensure that they are accurate and valid
- Decide on or develop unique research methods depending on the data needed.
- Design, develop, and implement research projects in collaboration with other team members
- Manage day-to-day project activities, including coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, developing timelines, and ensuring Research projects
- Conduct primary and secondary research using a variety of methods, such as surveys, interviews, focus groups, observations, and desk research
- Write reports and proposals to communicate research findings
- Train and mentor junior research staff, and provide guidance and support as needed
- Adhere to ethical standards and applicable laws and regulations when conducting research
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Interpret data, write reports, and research.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s or Doctoral degree with professional research knowledge in the field of business, economy, and technology.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the academic and applied research.
- Experience of team management
Required Skills & Competencies
- Knowledge of computers: word processing, database management packages
- Highly motivated, results-oriented, and with well-developed problem-solving skills
- Ability to cope with heavy workloads and to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
- Proven commitment to accountability practices
- Proven ability to design and execute research studies.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in analytical software
- Familiarity with statistical software programs, including SPSS, SMART-PLS, STATA NVIVO MAXQDA, SAS and other statistical packages.
