Terms of Reference for Consultancy Services for Translation of Trauma Healing Training Materials

1. Introduction to the Assignment

CPD in a consortium led by Catholic Relief Services is implementing the Nabadoon Reconciliation Activity project in 4 targeted Districts of Warsheikh, Afgooye, Barawe and Jowhar. The project seeks to strengthened social ties within conflict affected communities in the indicated Districts and , communities work collaboratively to strengthen livelihoods and build consensus built on peaceful and inclusive resource-sharing and responsive service delivery.

The inter-communal conflicts in the indicated Districts have resulted in loss of life, as well as personal and communal trauma, and distrust and trauma between conflicting identity groups. Based on this the project has trained the Staff from both CPD and SSWC on Trauma Awareness. The plan is for the trained staff to undertake a Training of Trainers for the facilitators in each district to lead proven trauma awareness and resilience workshops in which victims and perpetrators of violence can better understand the causes and symptoms of trauma, learn somatic and cognitive practices to release its effects, and thus become equipped to break cycles of violence and engage constructively for wellbeing, peace and reconciliation. Facilitators will then lead 3-day community trauma resilience sessions, organized by single-identity groups to create a safe space for open sharing. Participants in these workshops will volunteer to train as “Healing Companions” to support their communities following the workshops.

Based on the above, CPD is soliciting for translation services for key trauma healing training manuals and guidelines that are currently available in the English Language. The ToR is to solicit for translation services of the key documents from English to Somalia. This is an immediate assignment.

1. Assignment Summary

The consultant will translate several training material documents on trauma for use in the planned Training of Trainers workshops to for facilitators to lead proven trauma awareness and resilience workshops in which victims and perpetrators of violence can better understand the causes and symptoms of trauma, learn somatic and cognitive practices to release its effects, and thus become equipped to break cycles of violence and engage constructively for wellbeing, peace and reconciliation. The materials shall also support the training of Community members in basic psychosocial skills and how to support survivors, using a training manual focused on awareness, accompaniment, healthy coping mechanisms, and linking survivors to support, as needed.

1. Scope of Activities

The consultant will be expected to undertake the following tasks:

1. Go through the materials and get a clear understanding of the content and context.
2. Copy edit, and proof read the English version of the Trauma training materials.
3. Translate the Trauma training materials from English language to Somali language.
4. Proofread the translated materials to confirm that all concepts are well captured in appropriate Somali language.
5. Documents Requiring Translation

The 2 documents to be translated are:-

1. Rising from Resilient Roots, explores how inner healing can transform our immediate surroundings, communities and societies- Length 20 pages.
2. Trauma Awareness and Resilience Guide- A PowerPoint Presentation-59 pages long.
3. Application Requirement

The translation consultant shall be required to provide an Expression of Interest containing both a technical proposal (2 pages in length) and a financial proposal detailing the cost of the assignment.

1. Deliverables/Outputs

The following shall be the deliverables:-

1. Translated Somalia copy and digital soft version of the “Rising from Resilient Roots, explores how inner healing can transform our immediate surroundings, communities and societies.”
2. Translated Somalia copy and digital soft version of Trauma Awareness and Resilience Guide in Powerpoint.
3. Duration

The consultancy duration for the translation services is 10 working days, activated a day after the signing of the contract.
