| 1. Organizational Background |
HIDIG Relief and Development Organization (HRDO) is a non-governmental, non-profit, and impartial organization established in 2000 by Somali professionals from the diaspora. HIDIG operates across South-Central Somalia, focusing on improving the well-being of vulnerable communities, particularly internally displaced persons (IDPs) and hard-to-reach populations in Southern Somalia. The organization implements programs in health, nutrition, education, protection, WASH, and livelihoods, with an emphasis on sustainability, local ownership, and emergency response.
| 2. Overall Job Purpose |
HIDIG plans to implement a project titled ”Provision of Essential Lifesaving Primary Health Services to Vulnerable Communities in Under-Served and Hard-to-Reach Areas” (Project Code: 36514) in Beledweyne district, Hiraan region. Funded by the Somalia Humanitarian Fund (SHF) under the 2025 1st Standard Allocation, the project aims to reduce excess morbidity and mortality by improving access to primary healthcare for communities affected by climatic shocks and conflict.
Aligned with the 2025 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan (HNRP), the intervention supports emergency responses in priority districts and promotes the health rights and resilience of at-risk populations.
| 3. Position 1: Qualified Midwives (5 Positions) |
Four Qualified Midwives will be stationed at the Health Center to provide continuous 24/7 maternal health services. One midwife will be part of the Mobile Medical Team, delivering antenatal care (ANC), postnatal care (PNC), and managing referrals for pregnant women in remote areas.
| A. Key Responsibilities |
- Provide skilled maternity care including labor, delivery, and postpartum services.
- Offer ANC and PNC services in line with national guidelines.
- Facilitate timely referrals for emergency obstetric care.
- Ensure infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols are followed in maternity wards.
- Counsel mothers on breastfeeding, nutrition, family planning, and danger signs.
- Support mobile medical outreach with comprehensive maternal health services.
- Maintain accurate records in the ANC/PNC registers and reporting tools.
- Collaborate with medical officers and other health staff to ensure continuity of care.
| B. Required Qualifications |
- Diploma or Degree in Midwifery from a recognized institution.
- Minimum 2–3 years of practical experience in maternity or reproductive health services.
- Registered with a professional midwifery board or association (if applicable).
- Experience working in health centers or with mobile medical teams is an asset.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work night shifts and under pressure.
- Fluency in Somali is required; basic English skills are an asset.
| 4. Position 2: Auxiliary Midwives (4 Positions) |
Three Auxiliary Midwives will be assigned to the Health Center and one to the PHU to support Qualified Midwives during night shifts and busy maternity hours.
| A. Key Responsibilities |
- Assist Qualified Midwives during labor and delivery, especially night shifts.
- Support registration, vital sign checks, and ANC/PNC documentation.
- Prepare delivery rooms and ensure cleanliness and readiness.
- Monitor mothers during labor and refer any danger signs to the lead midwife.
- Support new mothers with basic newborn care and hygiene education.
- Provide support during immunization and postnatal visits.
| B. Required Qualifications |
- Certificate in Community Midwifery, Nursing, or a related health field.
- At least 1 year of experience working in a maternity or health facility.
- Basic understanding of maternal and child health care.
- Willingness to work flexible shifts including nights and weekends.
- Respect for patient confidentiality and strong ethical standards.
- Fluency in Somali language.
