| 1. Organizational Background |
HIDIG Relief and Development Organization (HRDO) is a non-governmental, non-profit, and impartial organization established in 2000 by Somali professionals from the diaspora. HIDIG operates across South-Central Somalia, focusing on improving the well-being of vulnerable communities, particularly internally displaced persons (IDPs) and hard-to-reach populations in Southern Somalia. The organization implements programs in health, nutrition, education, protection, WASH, and livelihoods, with an emphasis on sustainability, local ownership, and emergency response.
| 2. Overall, Job Purpose |
HIDIG plans to implement a project titled ”Provision of Essential Lifesaving Primary Health Services to Vulnerable Communities in Under-Served and Hard-to-Reach Areas” (Project Code: 36514) in Beledweyne district, Hiraan region. Funded by the Somalia Humanitarian Fund (SHF) under the 2025 1st Standard Allocation, the project aims to reduce excess morbidity and mortality by improving access to primary healthcare for communities affected by climatic shocks and conflict. Aligned with the 2025 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan (HNRP), the intervention supports emergency responses in priority districts and promotes the health rights and resilience of at-risk populations.
| 3. Position Overview
|
The GBV Counselor will be responsible for delivering high-quality, survivor-centered counseling services to survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) at the HIDIG-supported Health Center in Beledweyne. The role ensures compliance with HIDIG’s Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) Policy, Code of Conduct, Child Protection Policy, and other institutional frameworks. The Counselor will uphold principles of confidentiality, dignity, and survivor empowerment, while contributing to HIDIG’s broader protection and psychosocial support goals.
| A. Key Responsibilities |
- Provide trauma-informed psychosocial support and counseling to GBV survivors.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop survivor-centered safety plans.
- Ensure all case management procedures align with HIDIG’s PSEA and Code of Conduct standards.
- Maintain accurate and confidential case documentation in line with GBVIMS and data protection standards.
- Refer survivors to appropriate medical, legal, and psychosocial services.
- Support survivor empowerment through individual sessions and support groups.
- Participate in GBV-related awareness, outreach, and sensitization activities.
- Identify protection risks and refer concerns in accordance with HIDIG safeguarding protocols.
- Attend capacity-building workshops and support peer learning within the protection team.
- Submit timely reports, contribute to program evaluations, and document lessons learned.
- Reporting to Project Manager in Beletweyne office
| Required Qualifications |
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or related field.
- At least 3 years of experience in GBV counseling or similar protection roles.
- Strong knowledge of GBV core principles and survivor-centered approaches.
- Demonstrated experience working in humanitarian or development contexts.
- Fluency in Somali and English (written and spoken).
- High standards of integrity, confidentiality, and professional ethics.
- Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
