BACKGROUND

Volunteers for Relief and Development is a registered local organizations working in humanitarian initiatives to respond to vulnerable communities by protracted droughts and conflicts in hard-to-reach areas of Somalia. The main objective of its establishment is reaching the underserved populations affected climatic shocks, drought and human made disaster. Volunteers for Relief and Development operates in Central and South of Somalia.

JOB SUMMARY
The position is based in Diinsoor, and the role of the Pharmacist is to manage, oversee, and provide pharmaceutical and medication services within the health project, ensuring quality, safety, and effectiveness of medicines. Key responsibilities include preparing, dispensing, and monitoring medications, maintaining stock and pharmacy equipment, collaborating with health staff, and contributing to reporting and project planning.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Pharmacist will perform the following duties and responsibilities:

• Dispense medications and medical supplies according to national guidelines and project protocols.
• Supervise, store, and properly manage medicines and pharmacy equipment.
• Prepare and distribute medications to patients, ensuring correct dosage.
• Ensure quality control and safety of all dispensed medications.
• Collaborate with nurses, doctors, and other health staff to provide integrated services.
• Maintain accurate records of medicine usage, inventory, and daily reports.
• Support community awareness activities regarding the correct use of medicines.
• Participate in assessing the pharmaceutical needs and services.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy (Pharmacist) with professional registration.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in managing and dispensing medicines.
• Knowledge of medicine quality control, safety, and proper storage.
• Ability and willingness to work in field locations under challenging conditions.
• Experience working in health projects with NGOs or humanitarian organizations is preferred.
• Commitment to providing quality pharmaceutical services.

REQUIRED COMPETENCE

• High professional discipline, integrity, and reliability.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in computer applications: MS Word, Excel, and email.
• Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
• Ability to work under stress and engage with communities of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

CHILD PROTECTION AND SAFEGUARDING

The responsibilities of this position include regular contact with children, and young people. Volunteers for Relief and Development organization is responsible for protecting and safeguarding the dignity of children, women, and all vulnerable individuals, as well as raising awareness.
