Child Safeguarding: Level 3: the role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (The role holder will actually work with children underfives on a daily basis in the nutrition programs in Banadir region as a result of managing of Nutrition projects at the moment and all future projects that will start in Banadir .. The role holder will also support Nutrition projects running in Banadir as need be. |

| ROLE PURPOSE:The Nutrition Deputy Programme Manager has the stated purpose of leading the nutrition team for Banadir in all nutrition projects going and any other nutrition project that starts in Banadir region. The Deputy Nutrition Programme Manager is responsible for the effective design, implementation and coordination of all nutrition activities associated with the Save the Children in the state. S/He will be responsible for leading and managing the nutrition team in the region to include implementation; design of interventions; developing work plans; coordinating with partners in peer programs locally & regionally; stimulating & identifying innovative ideas amongst the team that will meet the project goals; establishing best practices; producing reports; attending regular management meetings both internal and external; coordinating with other SCISOM technical personnel and relevant Humanitarian actors. | |
| SCOPE OF ROLE:Reports to: Area Nutation Programme (with regular liaison with head of the Programs based in Mogadishu and Nutrition Technical specialist on technical aspects
Dimensions: Save the Children nutrition projects are currently being implemented in 5 districts of Banadir region namely , Hamarweine, Waberi, Hamar Jajab, Daynile, and Dharkenly, with an approximate 4 number of nutrition staff. He/she will also support partners who are working with SCI in those areas of responsibilty. Key Working Relationships Internal: Area Nutrition Manager, SS – Direct Supervisor Head of Programme, Southern States – dotted line management Nutrition specialists (Somalia / Somaliland & Nairobi) – Technical support SS AR based in Mogadishu. SC M&E / Reporting focal points SC Emergency Response team External: Local Authorities, line ministries and agencies at national level involved in Nutrition work Donors and donor representatives as assigned by the Field manager/Area representative.
Staff directly reporting to this post: functional line management for all Nutrition Project staff. |

| QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential · Health / Public Health / Nutrition BSc or equivalent · Substantial emergency nutrition programme management experience of 4-6 years including the design and implementation of feeding programs and their analysis and monitoring and evaluation. · Experience in planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating CMAM programmes · Experience in conducting nutrition assessments (survey design, implementation and analysis using the SMART method and package, an ability to include sound causal analysis) and an understanding of nutritional surveillance and information systems. · Proven capacity to supervise, train and coach national staff. · Experience and ability to represent Save the Children’s nutrition work in external meetings. · Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions. · Demonstrable ability at report writing and excellent communication skills · Experience of working safely in hostile and insecure environments · Self-motivated and enthusiastic personality, commitment to understanding and improving the lives of children in an emergency context · Ability and willingness to frequently travel and stay in the field · Ability to work under extreme pressure and meet deadlines with minimal guidance · Fluent written and spoken English · Distance management experience Desirable · Qualified nurse with Degree of Nutrition and primary health care / community health care · Awareness and understanding of food security and livelihoods programming options and other generic programming options for addressing the underlying causes of malnutrition · Experience of distance management of staff/resources in a remote location · Somali language skills · Knowledge of the region – Horn of Africa in general; Somalia especially · Coaching and training skills with a view to capacity strengthening of staff and partners · Experience of participative processes involving children, and ability to coach staff in mainstreaming good practice |
