POSITION: PROJECT ENGINEER(TO BE BASED IN BAIDOA, SOMALIA)
ABOUT African Volunteers for Relief and Development (AVORD)
AVORD is a non-profit organization operating in Somalia to deliver both emergency relief and long-term development programs. Since inception, AVORD has implemented numerous projects that have contributed to saving the lives of communities in humanitarian emergencies while fostering livelihood opportunities and sustainable income sources.
AVORD is currently seeking dynamic, mission-oriented and qualified project engineer to support its growing portfolio of programs.The position will be based in Baidoa, Somalia with frequent travel to other areas of the country as needed.

JOB OBJECTIVES
In collaboration with the program team, the ProjectEngineer will provide technical and administrativesupport to projects, ensuring high quality, accuracy and consistency of work.The incumbent will also be expected to meet and exceed the organization’s performance and delivery goals.

 

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the programmes coordinator of AVORD, the ProjectEngineer will assume the following roles and responsibilities:
Prepare, schedule, coordinate and monitor the assigned engineering projects
Monitor compliance to applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards and specifications
Interact with funding agencies to interpret their needs and requirements
Perform overall quality control of the work (budget, schedule, plans, personnel’s performance) and report regularly on project status
Assign responsibilities and mentor project team
Cooperate and communicate effectively with project manager and other projectparticipants to provide assistance and technical support
Review engineering deliverables and initiate appropriate corrective actions
Perform any other tasksas needed

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES:
A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering is required
At least 2 years of progressive experience in the design and construction of public buildings is required; experience in a humanitarian setting will be considered a plus
Proficient with MS Office Suite of tools, exposure to schedule software, preferably Primavera (P6)
Team oriented with strong collaborative relations across the organization, in both the program and program support departments
Good leadership and negotiating skills
