BACKGROUND

Lifeline-Gedo International (LLG) is a Humanitarian, Non-profit and non-governmental Organization dedicated to responding to humanitarian emergences through provision of life-saving support mechanisms in partnership with national and international role players, promoting peace and stability, advocate against all kinds of violence, initiate long term and short-term development projects. Over the past 10 years the LLG has grown, strengthened and diversified its programming strategy, funding and team and now comprises of a cohesive complementary portfolio of emergency response interventions alongside longer-term multi-sector adaptive programming in community resilience to climate- and conflict-induced shocks and stresses, durable solutions (DS) for displacement-affected communities through enhancing sustainable integration of IDPs and host communities, with parallel institutional systems strengthening work in Health and Nutrition sectors which LLG is aiming to expand across all its programme areas.. Today Lifeline Gedo is operational in Jubaland state in Somali across 3 districts which are Belet-Hawa, Bardere and Dolow.

Education & experience : ·       Preferably Training in Nutrition·       Paramedical background is an asset

·       Experience in nutrition program desirable

·       Preferably 6 months experience in the Field of nursing.

Languages : Somali: written and spoken

J O B   D E S C R I P T  I O N:

Hierarchical Supervisor : SC Supervisor
Functional / Technical Supervisors  : SC Supervisor
Working Hours : According to the shift
General Purpose of the Job : Assist the  respective nurse in the day to day attending of the patients in SC and ensure clear follow-up on the patients conditions.

 

Specific Responsibilities and Tasks:

  1. General Knowledge of LLG and Safety at work:
  • Co-operation with the colleagues of own and other departments.
  • Is aware of activities of other departments and respect specific rules and procedures.
  • Comply with the health and safety rules / instructions of the supervisor for wearing protective gears (if/when applicable) related to the job.
  • Ensure all staff working with him/her comply with the health and safety rules / instructions of the supervisor for wearing protective gears (if/where) related to the job.
  • Respect medical ethics at all times.
  1. Measurements and Documentation:
  • Perform anthropometric measurements and documentation according to the protocol.
  • Monitor regularly for clinical complications and report to the nurse or supervisor.
  • Record nutritional intake according to protocol.
  • Report defaulters regularly.
  1. Nutritional/ Medical Care:
  • Prepare and deliver therapeutic food to the beneficiaries of the nutrition program according to protocol.
  • Supervise the feeding techniques of the mothers, ensuring the intake of the prescribed TF by the Children in the Programme.
  • Create a playground for the children, stimulate them with toys, games etc.
  • Inform the caretakers about how the activities are organized during a day (Number and time of the meals, medical visit, weight measurement etc. and to whom address their problems.
  • Ensure to keep regular stock of TF supplies and make timely TF supplies order from the pharmacy when necessary.
  • Remove any milk that has not been consumed 1 hour after distribution. Provide fresh drinking water for the TFC and ensure that all children on plumpy nut receive fresh water.
  • Provide nursing care in collaboration with nurses including administration of drugs, taking of vital signs and other nursing tasks as requested by nurse or supervisor.
  1. Hygiene and Health Educations:
  • Ensure general hygienic precautions according to protocol regarding;
    • Food preparation, Food administration and Ward in general.
  • Participate and provide health education sessions to the care takers e.g. on nutrition and breastfeeding.

Additional Tasks:

  • Fill in the ITFC Register Book; Admissions, Discharge, Defaulter, Referrals and internal movements. Assist in reporting in general.
  • Be flexible and be able to give assistance with different activities not included in this primary job description.

This job description is subject to amendment depending upon the ongoing requirements of the project.
