Mott MacDonald been appointed by DFID for the management of the Somaliland Development Fund – Phase 2 and is currently expanding its team.

Mott MacDonald Project Office in Hargeisa therefore invites applications from qualified individuals to apply for the position of Economic Development Specialist. The position will be based at the Mott MacDonald Project Office in Masala area, Hargeisa.

Required qualifications

Qualifications and skills

• At least a Bachelor’s degree in Economics or Development Planning or International Development or International Relations
• Demonstrated excellent command of spoken and written English, fluent in Somali
• Proven facilitation, analytical and report writing skills.

General professional experience

• Experience in delivering capacity development, advisory and advocacy services to the related to Economic Development/Recovery in international development or government projects.
• Minimum 10 years of demonstrated experience with donor-funded development projects.

Specific professional experience

• A minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in private sector engagement and economic development in transition and fragile contexts is required.
• At least 3 years demonstrated understanding of contextual transition dynamics and processes specifically in Somaliland or Somalia.
• At least 3 years’ experience in designing or supervision of designing materials, tools and guidelines in economic development issues for use in training of project staff and downstream partners.
• Experience with application of the economic development analysis in single sector or multi sector projects/programmes.
