- JOB DESCRIPTION – Community Health Officer
Background
The Somali Red Crescent Society (SRCS) is an independent, non-political humanitarian organization that was founded in April 1963 and was established with presidential decree No. 187 in 1965. It was then recognized by the ICRC in 1969 and in the same year became a member of the International Federation of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent societies.
The Somali Red Crescent Society is currently looking for a qualified candidates to fill the vacant positions of Community engagement Officer
Community mobilization and participation
• Lead community mobilization, sensitization and facilitation on community participatory such as IDP and committees and volunteers
• Supervise and train on relevant topics related with community health and diseases prevention to the community volunteers and committees’ members
• Mobilization of community regarding support of linkages between the community and Village management committees to ensure that all the implementing activities are going smoothly
• Organizing on formation, capacity building, and facilitationand coaching to volunteers and committees for community health promotion.
• Assist the Community Health project team on preparation on needed volunteer kits together with program support team to ensure that all the necessary kits based on MOH standard are in place.
• Ensure that volunteers have enough capacity to provide basic health care detection of under 5 malnutrition cases and referral, timely reporting, early detection and timely referral cases with appropriate referral pathway, providing awareness raising and health education sessions related with community health problems.
Capacity building and coaching to volunteers
• Provide capacity building to volunteers to ensure that volunteers have enough knowledge and skill to perform community health related activities
• Provide regular on the job coaching and supervision to volunteers to ensure that volunteers have enough technical skill on providing community health related activities
• Identify needs of volunteers based on the job coaching and supervision and setting up action plan to ensure that volunteers have required skills and knowledge related with their responsibilities
• Conduct quarterly supervision meetings with volunteers to assess progress and address challenges.
• Report timely related with supervising volunteers’ status to make correct decision on community health based approaches to targeted area.
Monitoring and Evaluation
• Monitoring of community health promotion activities:
• Ensure that the hire and training of new community health workers is documented using community health worker identification tool
• Train community health workers on the use of community health promotion reporting tools.
• Ensure community health workers have adequate supplies to complete these tools.
• Ensure reports are submitted on schedule and monitor for data quality.
• Attend regular meetings with Community Health project team to address challenges, discuss solutions, and ensure that monitoring data is fed back into health promotion activities.
• In collaboration with Community Health Officers and community-based volunteers, participate in the operation of the project Complaints Mechanism:
• Train community health workers on sensitizing communities to complaints mechanism and gathering feedback through complaints forms.
• Support the clinical team in carrying out quarterly primary health care monitoring visits to SRCS run clinics.
Reporting
• Provide necessary required information on timely for weekly/ monthly program narrative report, M&E report, intern and final donor reports.
• Provide other necessary information requested.
Other
• Coordinate with program support teams to implement project activities in time
• In collaboration with other members of the health project team, participate in the design and implementation of formative assessments and baseline studies in order to identify health priorities and practices among thecommunity
• Respect rules and regulations of SRCS
• Remain flexible to perform other duties as required or requested
Education
• Bachelor of community health/Public Health or degree of other health related fields
Experiences
• At least 2 year experience in health education or community health promotion
Competencies
• Ability to work well in a team
• Ability to work in difficult situation with flexibility
• Ability to travel and work long continuous days in remote IDP camps and villages
• Good communication skill and experience in community facilitation
• Skilled facilitator, educator and trainer
• Basic knowledge and skill to use Microsoft package
