The Somali Red Crescent Society (SRCS) is an independent, non-political humanitarian organization that was founded in April 1963 and was established with presidential decree No. 187 in 1965. It was then recognized by the ICRC in 1969 and in the same year became a member of the International Federation of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent societies.
The Somali Red Crescent Society is currently looking for a qualified candidate to fill the vacant position of Motorcycle Response Unit (MRU) Drivers / First Aid Responders.

Main tasks
The MRU Driver / Responder will be responsible of driving the assigned motorcycle to the incident site and providing emergency medical assistance to the people in need, following the instructions given to him/her by the team leader/dispatcher.
As part of his/her duties, s/he will be providing first aid and other forms of medical assistance, transporting the casualties and dead bodies to the health facilities within the area of operations. S/he will also be transporting the medical emergency cases from the homes/shelter and other areas to the referral health facilities/hospitals.
S/he will be responsible for the deployment of the action members to the emergency scene when there is a mass casualty incident or be part of this team under the command of the Incident Commander.
The MRU Driver / Responder will be responsible to ensure the safety of the patient and the care giver by following all clinical protocols in place and by giving instructions as per SRCS safety protocols.
The MRU Driver / Responder will have additional operational responsibility, potentially via pre-deployment, to or nearincident sites when there is traffic jam and movement of the ambulances is difficult.
S/he should be responsible for safe driving conduct and for taking good care of the vehicle and the medical equipment assigned to her/him.
Specific Responsibilities
• Follow all traffic laws and drive defensively to ensure safety and accurately follow the correct route(following GPS guidance or other maps).
• Keep all windows/mirror and interior of the motor bike good and make sure there is always enough gas to get to the destination (drop off & pick up)
• Keep accurate count of gas usage, miles, and other data (by filling the log sheet)
• Ensure that MRU maintenance and cleaning is taken care of him/her. Reports to the SRCS Fleet Manager for any issues regarding the state of his/her assigned motorcycle.
• Follows and abides the dispatchers’ messages and Team Leader instructions.
• Drive the MRU for response to emergences in order the AT members to provide FA to the casualties.
• Assess the security of the area with the help of the crew member/team leader in case of an emergency response.
• Coordinate with the Dispatcher, Team Leader and FA Supervisors.
• Coordinate and collaborate with authorities and other actors at the scene and on the way check points.
• Comply with SRCS Safer Access Framework (SAF)guidelines.
• Evacuate casualties that need further assistance to hospitals
• Regular meetings (briefings and debriefings) to share information and lesson learns with the Team and the supervisors
• Collaborate with the SRCS drivers, staff and volunteers in the field
• He/she is responsible for the caring of MRUequipment, vehicle, spare parts and FA materials assigned to.
• Report to the Team Leader and FA Focal Point when there is an issue and obstacles that hinders the efficiency of the response.
• Flexible and allows to work extra hours and turn to be First Aider when he assigned to or when need arises.
Commitment
• The SRCS MRU driver respects and complies with the SRCS code of conduct and the RC/RC Movement principles.
• The driver has to keep all information gathered during the responses confidential and report directly to the Team Leader and the FA Focal point
• The drivers are required to respond with full equipment, supplies and appropriate clothing for the weather conditions, safety and the activity.
• The driver should be prepared for an 11-12-hour shiftbases.
Minimum Requirements
• High school or Diploma in health sciences, Nursing, or related field.
• Significant motorcycle driving experience is a must (must present practically)
• Having Pre-Hospital care and First Aid training with Certification is an asset.
• Good communication skills, both written and oral.
• Humanitarian drive, willingness to support the community.
• English is an asset value (possible training and meetings out of Somalia).
• Valid passport/Driving Liaison
