Background

Dan-Guud Consortium is a consortium of local NGOs led by SOYDAVO and funded by the European Union with members of SONSAF, YOVENCO, Media INK and MASAF. The consortium united under a project entitled ‘Expanding Civic Space, Empowering Youth and Women to contribute to the governance and development processes in Somaliland’. The project is three years in duration.

The Consortium is committed to promoting gender equality, inclusive governance, political participation and human rights in Somaliland. To achieve this, the Consortium’s project aims at improving the role of women and youth CSOs in the decision-making and political life in Somaliland by increasing women and youth’s participation in elections and democratic processes in Somaliland.

Summary of the Call for Sub-Grantees

The overall objective of this call is to select potential sub-grantees from Awdal, Sool and Sanaag regions of Somaliland for the purpose of facilitating and contributing to the delivery and implementation of the project activities at a local level.

The Consortium intends to sub-grantee number of activities relevant to the project in the six major districts in Somaliland. The activities include community conversations, national campaigns to promote youth and women leadership, and civic and voter education-related activities.

These activities focus on improving the role of the women and youth CSOs participation in elections and democratic processes in Somaliland.

Key Responsibilities

Overall responsibilities of the Subgrantees are to facilitate and support the Consortium to carry out project activities in Somaliland, particularly the target electoral districts and regions in Awdal, Sanaag and Sool.

The Consortium will sub-grantee part of its activities relevant to the following core project’s objectives;

  • Improved association and joint voicing by the youth and women CSOs
  • Improved transparency of the draft policies and feedback by the civil society.
  • Improved campaigning and participation of the CSOs, Youth and Women in the elections and democratic processes.

The Subgrantees are specifically required to;

  • Support the Consortium in carrying out activities in Somaliland and specifically for the target regions under this call for Sub-grantees;
  • Support the consortium in pushing for accountability and structural changes that facilitate increased civic rights, good governance, social inclusion and to hold duty bearers into account.
  • Regional community and community conversations will be conducted in the Somaliland regions.
  • Conduct a national campaign to promote youth and women in leadership in Somaliland and particularly for the target regions and districts;
  • Carry out civic and election education awareness in the major electoral districts in Somaliland.

Selection Criteria 

  • Must be legally registered under the Ministry of Planning and National Development;
  • Have an experience of up to 3 years in project implementations;
  • Have at least 50% of women in their decision-making bodies;
  • Must be able to work closely with the local authorities and the Consortium in facilitating the project activities;

 

How to Apply

This call for subgrantees is open for all emerging women and youth-led CSOs, and NGOs based in one of the following regions, Sanaag, Sool and Awdal regions of Somaliland.

    • Expression of Interest (EIO) of no more than 3 pages explaining, area of operation and why the organization is suitable as a Sub-grantee for this action;
    • Updated Curriculum Vitae (CV) of the organization’s leadership with details of qualifications, experiences;
    • Telephone contacts and names of three referees;
  • Organisation’s full address details including the physical location of the office;

Only shortlisted organisations will be contacted for assessment and interview.
