Substitute Teacher (4 Positions) – Hargeisa, Somaliland

In 2019, in line with its growth strategy, The Pharo Foundation took over this prestigious school, along with the Kindergarten and the Secondary School in Sheikh. The school was built to address the educational gap evident in primary schools. The school is built on an acre of land located in Shacab Area – Koodbuur District.
The Pharo Primary School implements a formal education programme for the primary level (grade 1 to grade 8). The school has 16 classrooms and teaches more than 540 students between the ages of 6 – 13. The Pharo Primary School delivers an integrated curriculum which covers different development areas that are designed for the 21st century learner. The education programme includes studies in Somali, Arabic, English, Mathematics, Humanities, Science & Technology and Creative Arts. The school is equipped with supporting facilities which include a computer lab, a science lab, an arts lab, an outdoor playground, and a library
Headquartered in London, the Foundation also has an operational HQ in Nairobi and offices in Addis Ababa, Assosa and Hargeisa.
Position: Substitute Teacher

This is an exciting opportunity to play a meaningful role in the growth of The Pharo Primary school and the pursuit of its goals.
In this position, the candidate will take over for full-time teachers in their absence, carrying out the lesson plans and ensuring students have a fulfilling classroom experience. We are looking for both experienced and newly qualified primary school teachers that are looking for more flexibility or to gain more teaching experience. Our school offers enthusiastic and well- behaved pupils and excellent teaching staff and leadership to support you with any issues
Duties and Responsibilities:
We are currently looking to build a list of Substitute Teachers with the right personality, attitude, and motivation to join our learning community, to be available for irregular work, sometimes on a short notice.
- Carryout lesson plan instructions from the classroom teacher, and/or create lesson plans in absence of a prepared lesson.
- Execute lessons efficiently using different styles of teaching depending on the content.
- Engage students to ensure a lively classroom atmosphere.
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
- Works efficiently within existing learning structures and believes in the capability of thestudents to excel.
- Serves a role-model to students.
- Demonstrates ability to learn a convey a variety of subject matters quickly, while adheringto school processes and protocols.
Required Qualities and Skills:
- The ideal person should possess, at minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in Education
- A minimum of two years teaching experience in Primary school level education.
- A thorough understanding of best practices in teaching.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Proficient in Word, Excel, Email usage, Internet searching and willing to learn new computer skills
- Flexible and motivated primary teachers who are passionate about education
- Strong classroom management skills
- Flexible & adaptable approach to work
- Innovative & resourceful teaching methods
Strong subject and curriculum knowledge
Prior substitute teaching experience is an asset
Salary
The salary is competitive and will commensurate with qualifications and experience.
