Internship Role: English Translators

The HALO Trust is a non-profit international non-governmental organisation. The HALO Trust is the world’s largest humanitarian mine action organisation and has conducted mine clearance and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) in Somaliland since 1999, employing over 500 local staff.

Location:      Hargeisa (with possible travel to HALO’s remote camps)

Title:              English/Somali Translators

Duration:    Four Months Contract (Contract duration 01 Jan to 30 April 2021)

Summary

The HALO Trust’s in-country head office is seeking to recruit four interns to work as translators for a period of four months to support an operational management training course. An excellent level of English and Somali (oral and written) is required for the role.

Responsibilities

• Direct translation to support trainees participating on the Operational Management Training Course.
• Travel with the trainees to HALO remote camps in support of the national team and community liaison.
• Translation of Somali documents to English documents in support of training.
• Assisting with and facilitating the course instructors to classroom preparedness source of activity.
• Community mobilisation meetings translation for the International trainees.
• Helping for the translations requirement while trainee’s staff are conducting surveys of confirming Hazard areas.

Education:

• University graduate (bachelor’s degree in relevant field)

Desirable:

• Experience in translation preferably with an INGO.
